Jessica from The Blog of Chloe and Pete , which is well worth a readgo on over and check it outhas been kind enough to link to us. Even better, she's baptized us "The Sexy Scourgers of Spanish Socialism". We love it. Patrick, if you're reading this, can you find some way to work it into the template? Thanks in advance. postCount('84285049'); Comments Posted 19:26 by John
Check out Cinderella Bloggerfeller , an excellent website whose focus is Europe. They've been following the Baltasar Porcel saga, too, and have translations that are better than ours. A couple more notes about Porcel: 1) He's really ugly. 2) He's a Mallorcan. The stereotypical Mallorcan first name is Tomeu. Since most Mallorcans identify with Mallorca first and Spain and Madrid second, not Catalonia and Barcelona second, you could say that Mr. Porcel has sold out to the Catalans by taking their money and is thus a traitor to his people. You could even call him an "Uncle Tomeu". postCount('84283934');

Phishtory Contributors Trick or Trout Continuing their heavy touring year, Phish returned to the road in early October after just a couple of months off (months which, among other things, saw Trey and Sue get married). The first show marked the debut of Guyute, a song some viewed as the next Phish epic. But the tour's biggest highlight may have been an impromptu week-long tour with bluegrass pal the Reverend Jeff Mosier across the midwest. That is, if you're willing to overlook the Glens Falls Halloween show. Playing their first solo Halloween gig since 1991, the band decided to don a "musical costume" for event, playing any album voted on by fans in its entirety as the second set of a three-set show. The winner, with just over 400 votes cast, was The Beatles' White Album , and the band did an excellent job with the material, culminating in Fishman getting naked to the fading strains of Revolution #9. That, coupled with monster performances of Divided Sky, Reba, Bowie and Antelope made this one of the greatest Phish shows of all time. By the time Page hit the final note of The Squirming Coil at almost 3:30 a.m., the 8,000 or so fans present knew they had witnessed Phishtory. INTRODUCTION
BANGKOK, with a skyline of soaring pagodas and modern high-rises, reveals itself as both a spiritual center and dynamic commercial capital. However, its economic fortunes reflect those experienced by most of the Asian Tigers—countries whose economies surged forward in the 1980’s, only to collapse under the weight of mismanagement and reckless borrowing. For the tourist from the U.S., U.K., Australia and Canada, this means that Bangkok’s singular attractions can be experienced at a much more favorable exchange rate, as even the posthaste hotels and restaurants scramble for guests.
Where to Stay
Bangkok’s hotels are concentrated in three major areas: along the Chao Phraya River, in the entertainment and business districts between Silom Road and Suriwong Road, and along Rama I Road and Sukhumvit Road. We have concentrated on hotels in the sprawling central area of a sprawling city.

Threat of hostilities in ravaged countries
FORMER allies Uganda and Rwanda accused each other yesterday of massing troops along their common border, just days after their armies clashed in the rebel held Congolese city of Kisangani.
Differences between the two erupted into full scale fighting last August when the two armies battled for control over the diamond rich city.
Since fighting resumed last Friday, Bideri said Uganda had beefed up infantry and equipment all along the border. Military sources said Uganda had deployed up to six extra battalions.
Rwandan troops have also been reported heading towards the frontier in response, but Bideri denied there had been any movements on the Rwandan side. “The government of Rwanda would like to call on the international community to prevail on Uganda to put an end to its hostile activities,” Bideri said.
Rwandan President Paul Kagame is due to meet Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni in Tanzania on Sunday to discuss the escalating crisis, Rwandan presidential cabinet director Theogene Rudasingwa said. He said the two would meet in the lakeside Tanzanian town of Mwanza along with that country’s President, Benjamin Mkapa.
Museveni and Kagame agreed at the weekend to demilitarise Kisangani and withdraw their troops to put an end to the conflict. Ugandan army commander Major General Jeje Odongo flew to Kigali on Tuesday ahead of the talks and was due to meet his counterpart.

Greenwood/Elk columns January 5 ~ April 27, 1989 January 5th, As I write this, the end of 1988 is eleven and a half hours away. The sun is shining and a strong wind is blowing out of the North. Various folks around town are making last minute plans on where they are going to bring in the new year. Some treat it like just another day and some like to make some kind of definite mark, observe the end and beginning. My earliest recollection of observing new years eve was as a young boy, trying to stay awake for the magic stroke of midnight, listening to the radio and accurately setting the clock was my way of following the count down. Usually I didn't make it, falling asleep somewhere along the way. As a young man I ended up in the routine a lot of other folks follow, some big party and too much to drink. In time I decided to change all that and observe the ending of the old and the beginning of the new in ways more memorable. One year I was with a group of religious folks and we observed the transition, drink free in silent prayer. Another time my wife and I tried to climax lovemaking at the stroke of midnight, not too successfully, I might add; we were too clock conscious.

MIAMI A mangy rooster strutting around some brush on the outskirts of the Orange Bowl easily made it through the iron bars of the NW1 gate, ignoring the chains and padlock meant to keep everyone outside. Across the way at the southeast entrance, a group of Miami fire and rescue workers played a game of touch football as tropical raindrops started to fall. And a couple of guys with Iowa sweatshirts stopped by the main gate to take each other's picture with the stadium's art deco pink-and-green facade in the background. Otherwise, on the day the Orange Bowl was to be played, the Orange Bowl was just another forgotten relic.
