Every once in a while I find a book that really makes sense. Tucked away on my list are books by Os Guiness, Philip Yancey, and Leon Morris. Recently I added another book to my top 10 list and if you have visited with me about the topic of parenting in the last three months, you know which book I am writing about. I have read many books on parenting in hopes of becoming a better parent, as well as, a better youth pastor who gives advice to parents. I have read books by John White, Jay Kesler, Ross Campbell, James Dobson, and many others on the topic of parenting. But, I must say, that I have found this latest book to be the most helpful. “Boundaries With Kids” by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend.

6 Osage County Homes Burn
By The Associated Press A brush fire that charred parts of Osage County was brought under control by firefighters about 6 p.m. The fire between the town of Osage and Hominy burned about 100 acres in the Frontier Shores area and consumed four trailer homes, several sheds and some abandoned vehicles. Kurt Atkinson, assistant director of the state Forestry Division, said firefighters got help from a National Guard helicopter. A fire east of Stilwell in northeastern Oklahoma destroyed at least one home, Atkinson said. Ray Dobbins, a Stilwell firefighter, said three other homes were threatened but the fire was under control by about 4 p.m. A blaze earlier in the day destroyed at least one home in Albion in far southeastern Oklahoma. A blaze that burned 150 acres near Edmond threatened two or three homes east of Arcadia Lake Thursday afternoon before it was brought under control.

Friends and Dignitaries Recognize Nighs 50 Years of Public Service
By LOUISE ABERCROMBIE News Staff Writer Nigh was roasted and toasted by Democrats, Republicans and television personalities at a dinner Thursday evening honoring his 50 years in public service. The statement came after Nigh got in his own quips and had been roasted by the head table guests, including wife Donna. Over 700 well-wishers and fans of the Nighs from across the state and the nation packed the Grand Ballroom of the Marriott Hotel for the gala. Another 150 were on the waiting list. One hilarious mo-ment came when Lt. Governor Mary Fallin presented Nigh, who was lieutenant governor 17 years and four times governor (two terms less than 10 days each), an honorary lieutenant governor designation. Nigh had originated the award.

Thank you ... for helping keep kids safe. The Juneau SAFE KIDS Coalition would like to say thanks... To all the volunteers who made our Bike Rodeo fun and informative for all the kids and their parents. To the Juneau Police Department for use of their equipment and their officers: Marc Parfitt, David Wrightson, Dominic Branson, Kris Sell, Steve Christensen and Troy Wilson. To Lou Edwards from the Juneau Free-Wheelers for his expertise and finesse in bicycle repair. To Bob Laurie and the Alaska Highway Safety Program for road safety training and funding for reflectors and tattoos. To Kmart for use of their parking lot, Odom Corp. for the banner, Juneau Parks and Recreation for course cones and to Martha Moore and Alice Walters from the Alaska Injury Prevention Program for their expertise in applying temporary tattoos. The Juneau SAFE KIDS Coalition would also like to remind all kids that even though school is out, you still need to: Use your head and wear a helmet when bike riding, skateboarding or rollerblading (and parents set an example for your children). This summer you might "get caught" by a Juneau Police officer and if you have your helmet on you could get a free ice cream cone or a movie pass.
