L'être de Flatland tente de prêcher cette découverte mais il est incompris, pris pour un fou et enfermé. L'auteur tente d'éveiller les gens à la découverte et à la quatrième dimension (temps). Il tente d'éviter l'obscurantisme qui accompagne souvent les découvertes scientifiques qui bouleversent les croyances.
