Sixty-nine pages on each of four sides of seventeen folded 295mm x 210mm thin white sheets and another side of a further sheet. An extensively revised working manuscript of this unpublished comic drama by the Guatemalan Nobel Prize winner, best known for his wild evocations of the rich mytho-poesis of the Gautemalan peasant, such as Mulata de tal and for his powerful, and equally myth-steeped, novels of central American politics, such as the Banana Trilogy and El Senor Presidente. According to Asturias's note on the hand-written title page, the play was written on the train from Genova to Rome on 2nd of February, 1965. Evidently, the action of the play was suggested, at least in part, by encounters that occurred during the trip. Asturias was living in Genoa at the time and working as a journalist subsequent to the fall of Guatemalan president Arbenz. Signed by Asturias. Very good. Miguel Angel Asturias Miguel Angel Asturias nació en la ciudad de Guatemala el día 19 de Octubre de 1899. Sus padres fueron, Ernesto Asturias (abogado que militaba en las filas de la oposición al dictador Estrada Cabrera) y María Rodales, de sangre maya. Por motivos políticos (la perseguidos por Cabrera) junto a su familia se vio en la obligación de vivir su niñez lejos de su ciudad natal. Lo hizo en Salamá, un pequeño pueblo situado en la provincia de Baja Verapaz. Allí se empapó de cultura indígena y vida de campo. Ya en su plena adolescencia Asturias realizó sus estudios secundarios, en la ciudad de Guatemala. Mas precisamenete en el Instituto Nacional de Varones, donde se recibió de bachiller en el año 1916, año en el que conoce personalmente a Rubén Darío (9 meses antes de que éste escritor muriera). Inmediatamente después comienza a estudiar medicina en esa ciudad pero decide abandonar esa carrera para dedicarse al derecho en el año 1918 en la Universidad Popular de Guatemala. Mientras estudiaba derecho escribió sus primeros sonetos (entre 1918) y son publicados en los periódicos "La Opinión" y "La campaña". Durante este período de estudio Asturias, como hombre volcado a los problemas sociales, enseño a leer a obreros y dicta clases de gramática. En el año 1920 actúa como secretario del tribunal especial que enjuicia a Cabrera luego de una exitosa revolución. En 1939 se casa con Clementina Amado en el mismo año que muere su Padre (Ernesto), y que nace su hijo "Rodrigo". Dos años más tarde nace su segundo hijo al que bautiza como Miguel Angel. En 1942 fue elegido diputado en su país y, a partir de 1946 (año en que publica "El Señor presidente", libro dedicado a Cabrera) fue embajador en México, Argentina y El Salvador, hasta que, en 1954 renunció, se exilió de Guatemala y se fue a vivir a Buenos Aires. Allí Conoce a fidel Castro en Buenos Aires. En septiembre 1959 viaja a Cuba y Centroamérica, invitado por el mismo Fidel.

Miguel Angel Asturias Novelista y poeta guatemalteco. Prolífico escritor y diplomático, nació el 19 de octubre de 1899, en la ciudad de Guatemala y falleció en París el 9 de junio de 1974. De familia modesta, cursó la Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad de San Carlos, donde obtuvo el título de abogado y notario en 1923. Parte entonces a Londres, donde descubre las obras mayas del British Museum. Se translada en seguida a París, donde funda la Liga del estudiante latinoamericano y estudia con el profesor Georges Raynaud el Popol-Vuh , libro sagrado de los antiguos mayas que traduce del francés en colaboración con el mexicano González de Mendoza. Luego en 1930 se traslada a Madrid y publica por la editorial Oriente Leyendas de Guatemala , en que recuenta las ricas tradiciones indígenas de su país. Al regresar a Guatemala en 1933 funda el primer radioperiódico de Guatemala, El diario del aire . En 1945, cuando el dictador Jorge Ubico toma el poder se ve obligado a dejar el país y se refugia en México. De 1947 a 1954, ocupa diversos cargos diplomáticos. Con la caída del gobierno democrático de Jacobo Arbenz se exilia otra vez y vive largos años en Buenos Aires. Después se dirige a Génova, París y Palma de Mallorca. Ocasionalmente viaja a Guatemala, donde recibe homenajes por parte de los jóvenes intelectuales. En 1966 es nombrado embajador de Guatemala y en 1967 recibe el Premio Lenin de la Paz y el Premio Nobel de literatura. El reconocimiento de la obra de Miguel Ángel Asturias marca el comienzo de la valoración por parte de Europa y Estados Unidos de la literatura hispanoamericana como una literatura que al mismo tiempo expresa la realidad de un continente y posee una calidad semejante a las grandes literaturas del mundo. Con Asturias termina el ciclo de la llamada novela indigenista y se abre paso a una nueva generación de escritores como Alejo Carpentier, Gabriel García Márquez, Mario Vargas Llosa, Juan Rulfo, Julio Cortázar, José Donoso, Augusto Roa Bastos y muchos otros que constituirán el fenómeno literario-editorial conocido como el
