This book is, in my opinion, the Ultimate Horror Novel - it is Horror, it is Thriller, it is Mystery, and it is a runaway train ride that will propel you to the most satisfying conclusion I have ever seen a writer craft. I usually summarize or at least give a thumbnail sketch of the plot in my reviews - I don't want to do that here, because I want you to come to this novel the same way I did, without any preconceptions of what it might be about. To qoute from WIDOW'S WALK: "When a living thing is killed by another living thing it's always murder." How can a line like that at the beginning of a story, presenting such a unique perspective, fail to captivate us right until the very last word? Steve Beai knows how to grab your attention and not let you go until that final page. Set aside several hours of uninterrupted reading, because if you're FORCED to put this book down before finishing it, you'll be thinking of nothing else but when you'll be able to pick it up again and jump right back onto that hurtling train. I picked it up before bed, and never GOT to bed. Since I'm in essence saying "Trust me on this one" without so much as giving you a hint of what the novel may be about, let me quote a passage:

Text This book is alright, read it if you like the author or can't find anything else to float your boat. This book is a good read and worth checking out if you're so inclined. This book is a find, the author gets kudos, just read it and be happy. Links Widow's Walk Steve Beai Widow's Walk is not another creepy crawly critter book. Park Woods, a suburban neighborhood near Kansas City sets the scene for Beai's latest. Sheriff Bob Baxter has personal problems from his recent separation with his wife, to his drinking problem. He's haunted by the only murder case he's ever worked on where he was unable to save his one time partner Jack Reid or apprehend the truly detestable, murderous Alvy Morehouse. He is totally unprepared for what is about to happen to his town. A murdered child is found in the woods, killed by a Black Widow spider. A spider the size of a German Shepard. Spider's nest and so do these! With the help of Bryce Willard (the county coroner), a spectral visit from Jack Reid, and his deputy they seek to stop the spiders from spreading out. Twists and turns run rampant with the spiders being the least of Baxter's problems.
The characters are quirky, the dialogue often tongue in cheek, and the plot is fast moving. Beai's strong point is his ability to roll off an action sequence. He's wonderful here, as scenes play out explicitly. Widow's Walk is above average and entertaining. Isn't that what it's all about?
