89. History
1960 In October of this year interested volunteers met with the ConstanceBeresford Howe Reading Group to discuss the organization of a library.
http://www.bpim.qc.ca/roxboro/history.htm
The history of Roxboro library dates back to 1959 when there existed only travelling libraries. The final stage of one of these libraries (McLennan travelling library) gave birth to Roxboro Public Library. In this year library services to North Shore (courtesy of the McLennan travelling library) were terminated. In October of this year interested volunteers met with the Constance Beresford Howe Reading Group to discuss the organization of a library. The Roxboro administration promised to provide the land for the library, should sufficient funds be raised for the building itself. A plan was made to have a door-to-door canvas, in the process of which, $5000.00 and numerous books were collected. Simultaneously, similar plan was launched in Pierrefonds. All monies collected went to a common fund. A pre-fabricated house was purchased and set up in the Roxboro 11th Ave. Roxboro and Pierrefonds acting together formed the "Roxboro North Shore Library Association". Roxboro North Shore Association opened its doors to the Public on October , with a total of 4000 books both in English and French.
