Added-value - quality rather than quantity
Developing appropriate techniques for evaluation is the key to establishing the effectiveness of any changes in the design and delivery of new curricula. If Learning Technology is to be adopted into mainstream teaching, either in new courses, or old, throughout the HE sector, then adequate tools for assessing the validity of this work have to put into place right at the start of any attempt at intervention and not just as an afterthought.
Introduction
Varsetile is a TLTP Phase Two institutional project based at the University of Stirling and has now been in operation for over two years. As an institutional project we are well placed to capitalise on the potential dissemination of materials developed elsewhere by other TLTP projects. We are also in an ideal position to assess the current environment in relation to the take-up of learning technology in higher education and ultimately to ask the question, 'What has TLTP achieved?'

THE STRANGEWAYS AND NUEVE LUNAS KICK OFF GROOVEWELL CONCERT SERIES
The Strangeways and Nueve Lunas kick off the debut Groovewell concert series, Wednesday, June 7 at the Orpheum, 1902 Republica de Cuba Ave. (14th St., at Eighth Avenue) in Ybor City. Doors open at 9 p.m., and admission is $5.
The Strangeways, organized as Planet Dread by trumpeter-singer Will Haynes in 1994, have gained a reputation as one of the South's finest exponents of third-wave ska, a rootsy, distinctively original blend
The band, based in Sarasota, began attracting national attention about three years ago with their debut CD, "Corporate Monkey," initially released on their own Prime 8 label and then reissued on Ska Satellite Records, distributed by Moon Ska NYC. One track, "Mango Man," also appeared on the label's 1998 "Moonshot!" compilation.
"Strangeways play a brand of ska reminiscent of 2-Tone's heyday, particularly the English Beat," Steve Huey wrote in the All-Music Guide. "Corporate Monkey proves to be a promising debut."
The Strangeways' second disc, "Another Round," is slated for release later this year through Moon Ska. The disc will feature 16 tracks of ska, rock steady and reggae.

15-Jan-01 Opening: Modern Defence Demonstrating: Controlling the middle ground a b c d e f g h a b c d e f g h
Move 5 (White to play). After a modern defence opening (e4-g6, d4-Bg7,...) white has taken control of the middle ground. White could play Qf3 thereby attacking the f7 pawn along with the bishop on c4. Black should play e6 to defend this should the situation arise. White however plays Ne2, thereby not allowing Qf3 and black siezes the opportunity to attack the bishop by playing b5. White is not daunted by this and takes the pawn by playing Nxb5. Black believes there is a material advantage gain here (2 pawns for 1 knight) and takes the knight by playing cxb5. However white has now two options. Take the pawn and place the King under check Nxb5+, which would be easily defended, or play Bd5 thus gaining the rook at a8 (the early sacrifice of the knight was not lost). To have defended the situation black could have played d5 thus gaining a knight or bishop and protecting the rook at the same time.

http://www1.rhbnc.ac.uk/english/en2305/larkin.html
Authors : Philip Larkin [828 LAR] The most complete collection of the poetry is the Collected Poems, edited by Anthony Thwaite, 1988. Poems are arranged in two sections with the later poems in the first section; within sections poems are in chronological order, many of them poems that Larkin did not himself publish or collect in volumes. The individual volumes (most important starred) are:
  • The North Ship, 1945; *The Less Deceived, Hull, 1955; *The Whitsun Weddings, 1964; *High Windows, 1974.
  • Larkin wrote two novels; both are worth reading and have a bearing on the poetry: Jill, 1946, A Girl in Winter, 1947
For Larkin's views on literature, consult his Required Writing: Miscellaneous Pieces 1955-1982, 1983, and on modernism (and jazz) see the opening pages especially of All What Jazz: A Record Diary 1961-68, 1970, revised 1985. His choice of modern poetry, much criticized for timidity by his critics, will be found in The Oxford Book of Twentieth Century English Verse, 1973 [828.108 OXF]. Much can be learned from a reading of the entertaining and scandalous Selected Letters of Philip Larkin, edited by Anthony Thwaite, 1992, and from Andrew Motion's revelatory biography Philip Larkin: A Writer's Life, 1993 [828 LAR/M]
