"Taken By The Wind" : CHARLOTTE BOYETT-COMPO I found this a very unique look at the mental problems twins may face, by having someone that looks exactly like them. Brenna Collins is working late at the office one night when hears a murder being carried committed outside of her office door. Just when she thinks she is safe and starts to hightail it out of there via the elevator the killer comes out of the stairwell and sees her. Eventually he catches up to her in the carport. Yet for some reason he lets her escape, when he could have killed her right there. Of course the police show up and to Brenna's dismay the detective on the case is the murderer she saw in the stairwell. Or is he? He sure looks like it.. Brenna believes he is the killer and leaves town out of fear for her life. Only the killer has taken a liking to Brenna and every time she thinks she is safe he turns up and kills someone else. Each person murdered is a twin. For this reason the killer is dubbed the Gemini Killer. But of course Brenna knows who that killer is, and it seems Brenna can't get away from him. Brenna runs again, and again but the killer always finds her. Just when it has been quiet for a while and Brenna thinks this time she may be safe the killer shows up in her area again. So does detective Kylan Cree, but that's right they are one and the same. Aren't they? Not according to the detective. He says he has a twin that is doing the killing. Is this true? If so will Brenna be safe now that the detective has shown up? Or is there even really a twin at all?

Introduction
Boyett-Compo is the author of several e-books published online at Dark Star Publications . The two novels I read were dark romances, combining light horror with McCaffrey-style romance plots. Though her plots for the first half of the books seemed predictable, they went through interesting twists later that may surprise you. They also had well fleshed-out main characters combined with believable and well thought out settings. If you want solid combinations of blood and sex written from both gender perspectives, these are Reading entire novels on-line may be a new experience for many of you (it was for me), but I didn't find it to be a problem as long as I took a break every few chapters. Although you can't take these books with you when you go out unless you have a laptop, you also can't damage them in any of the normal ways, and no one can "borrow" them from you. In all, it's a pretty decent medium, and it provides an opportunity for the author to publish a number of books relatively quickly, which saves fans from those annoying delays. One of Mrs. Boyett-Compo's books, Keeper of the Wind , is published in paperback as well.

Lesley Having been taken prisoner by Olan Hesar, Riain Cree is rescued by the Master-at-Arms of the Duke du Mer. Starved, beaten and suffering from Labyrinthian Fever he is nursed by the Duke's spinster daughter, Suzanna. Before he can return home he is raped by Suzanna in a deranged plan to force him to marry her. However, once her family find out about her plan she is confined to an asylum. As Riain boards a ship to sail home he hears Suzanna's voice cursing him "From this day forward my vengeance shall follow you wherever you go". When, a few years later, her father dies Suzanna is the sole remaining heir to the throne of the Northwinds and is crowned as such. When she hears that Riain is betrothed to a Chrystallus princess her obsession with him resurfaces. To what extent will Suzanna go to finally possess the man she is infatuated with? How far will Riain have to go to escape her attentions? Can anyone help him? This is yet another superb example of Charlotte Boyett-Compo's writing. From the very beginning this story entrances the reader and draws them into a complex, detailed world full of political wrangling and emotional turmoil. The story is set in the same world as the "WingLegends" series although during a different period.

In the Wind's Eye
Dark Historical Romance
by Charlotte Boyett-Compo "Best Books of 1999" by Inscriptions Magazine Captain Sinclair McGregor has spent two years in the frozen hell of a Yankee prison camp. His life as he once knew it has been destroyed by the War. Returning home to Savannah to find his fiancee married to his worst enemy and his ancestral home sold for back taxes to the same man, he knows a despair darker than the depths of the Abyss. His life in shambles, his heart broken, with no money or possessions to his name, he is forced to move in with the grandmother who had raised him: a woman who abused him as a child and despises him as a man. If Sinclair cannot take back the family mansion, she would rather see him dead and sets into motion a plan to have her wishes carried out. But no one counted on the love of four uniquely different women who band together to save Sinclair McGregor's life and soul. Will they be successful...or will the ugly hatred of a bitter old woman condemn him to a final hell? Ms. Boyett-Compo's ebook is available for $5.35; her paperback is available for $18.95.

An Interview with Charlotte Boyett-Compo
Author of In the Wind's Eye and The Prince of the Wind As the author of "In the Wind's Eye" (paperback and ebook) and "The Prince of the Wind", how would you describe your books?
"In the Wind's Ey"e is a dark historical romance in the vein of Marilyn Harris' Eden Saga series. It is not your grandmother's romance novel with the perpetual happy-ever-after ending and simpering heroine whose shapely butt must be extracted from deep doo-doo by the hunky, bornzed hero with the chiseled pecs and washboard abs. The hero is tormented, prone to misery, and the heroine is an unlikely middle-aged woman, overweight, and pining for our delectable male speciman. "The Prince of the Wind" is a work-in-progress, in chapter installments, and I'd classify it as a cross-genre dark fantasy/paranormal romance. Can you tell us the behind-the-scenes story about how "In the Wind's Eye" came into being? What was the germ? How did the characters come to life? Is there a character who still lives inside of you?
In the Wind's Eye began at the request of a friend from high school who has a Southern website. The novel takes place after the Civil War in Georgia. I was doing it in chapter installments, but then the webmaster began having personal and professional problems and couldn't post the chapters each month. The readers who had become addicted to the tale were demanding I publish the book somewhere for them to read. I contacted DLSIJ Press and the wonderful folks there asked to read it for themselves. The restas they sayis.... The character of Leonie Emerson, the middle-aged heroine so to speak, is really me in thin disquise. Actually she's actress Kathy Bates, but we won't tell Kathy unless she'd like to put an option on the screenplay :)).

Prince Of The Wind "Very highly recommended!…A breathtaking saga of love, danger, and the paranormal. Use caution in beginning this tale, however, for its memory will haunt one's dreams with its extraordinary powerful telling. Fans of Boyett-Compo's work who have previously fallen under the mesmerizing spell of the Cree and McGregor men will delight in this further telling of their history.…Once again fans of the master of the fantastic and fantasy will find their appetites fully satisfied by the extraordinarily fantastic novel Prince Of The Wind . Boyett-Compo's fantastic world breathes a freshness and originality because she dares the impossible, thrusting her hero into a world of abuse and rape, and creating an insane protagonist capable of incredible evil. The haunting richness and vividness of the tale, however, may walk in the reader's own dreams, so use caution when reading ones self to sleep. For if sleep does come, it will be rife with danger and deviltry."—Cindy Penn, Word Weaving "Very strongly recommended! Charlotte Boyett-Compo is a wonderful storyteller.
