FEATURED AUTHOR: CHARLOTTE BOYETT-COMPO About the Author: Charlee is the author of thirty-five books, the first ten of which are the WindLegend Saga. Married 36 years to her high school sweetheart, Tom, she is the mother of two grown sons, Pete and Mike, and the proud grandmother of Preston Alexander and Victoria Ashley. A native of Sarasota, Florida, Charlee was adopted at birth and grew up in Colquitt and Albany, Georgia. She now lives in the Midwest. Her hobbies are writing, watching Australian actor Hugh Jackman strut his stuff, and trying to keep her adorable husband, Buddha Belly, from snoring. She is owned and operated by six cats. Currently, she is at work on a new anthology and the third novel in the WindTorn Trilogy. About the Book: WINNER OF WORDWEAVING'S AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE First torn apart by her parents, then by a destiny they cannot control, Bronwyn McGregor and Sean Cullen face virtually insurmountable odds to find a life together. As young as eleven years, Sean would have done anything, accepted any punishment, to protect Bronnie. Her parents hoped she and Sean would lose interest in one another; instead, their love only increased over time. She's the daughter of a doctor and well-respected family; he's the son of an alcoholic butcher known to beat his wife and son. Then she turns sixteen, and he turns eighteen, and her father serves the ultimatum that they must not see one another. Despite his desire to be with Bronnie, destiny takes Sean overseas where he enters a dangerous world. Soon he learns he is a Reaper. His bond with Bronnie is eternal because, like wolves, Reapers only bond once. As Sean struggles with the loss of the love of his life, Bronnie likewise mourns. Unknowingly, her grief calls a Nightwind. Bronnie is the last of the McGregor women bound to the Nightwind by grief and history. Now only fate and perseverance can determine who will win Bronwyn McGregor. As painful and destructive events unfold, destiny threatens to keep the Reaper and Bronnie apart forever.

However, there are many who would not see Gillian and Kaelan wed, and one of those is Kaelan’s brother Duncan, who is hostile to Kaelan for no reason that is explained in the text. From the beginning, this book grabbed me by the throat and refused to let go. The premise is a well-structured variant on "Mars needs women," involving an interstellar empire of common ancestry with Earth that has been decimated by bacteriological warfare rendering all their females infertile. They evolve a society based upon the kidnapping and enslavement of Earth females. Needless to say, the kidnapped women want to overthrow their oppressors and return home. But all that is background. The soul of this story is Kamerone Cree, raised since infancy to kill at his Empire's command. Due to a convoluted series of internested plots (I can't explain more without giving away vital plot twists), he is forced to undergo behavioral modification therapy a polite way of saying psychological torture and subliminal brainwashing to make him fall in love with the heroine, Dr. Bridget Dunne. Except he is incapable of the emotion. So they try to build it out of the emotions he is capable of lust, anger, jealousy, etc.

Thank you so much Ms. Compo, for taking the time out of your busy schedule, to do an interview with me.
Debbie . How long have you been a writer?
Charlotte . I have been writing since was about twelve years old. My first 'novel' was written in a composition book. It was called Western Flame and the hero was based on Michael Landon..with whom I was deeply in love after watching him as Little Joe Cartwright. I wrote my second 'novel' when I was sixteen. It was called The Great Giovanni and was written for my new love, Robert Vaughn whose tortured character of Lee in The Magnificent Seven thrilled me no end!
Debbie . How did you get started?
Charlotte
Debbie
. How do you go about doing research for your books?
Charlotte . Most of my work has been built on my own imagination. The worlds I have created, the characters I've given birth to, and the casting of strange magic has come primarily from that imagination. I have incorporated certain myths and legends into my work, but primarily, what you read has sprang from my own creative processes. I read everything I could get my hands on pretaining to the occult and the paranormal when I was growing up. A lot of what I read stuck with me and I used that knowledge as a springboard.
Debbie . Is it very extensive?

Nightwind
by Charlotte Boyett-Compo, 1999
Review by Eva Wojcik-Obert
www.ebookconnections.com
In Nightwind we meet Charolette Boyett-Compo's one mean voyeuristic incubus, succubus, demon of sexuality Syntian Cree. Nightwind is touted as a "vampiric horror" novel and it does succeed in offering up one horrific sexual predator in the form of dear Syn who literally gets the ladies drooling whenever he struts his 5,000 year old "dead" stuff. But Syntian only has eyes for the human doormat Lauren Fowler, for whom he extracts vengeance through sexual assaults upon the women who verbally abuse and belittle her. Nightwind consistently sticks to its horror theme on one level or another as events run their course. There's something to make you cringe all the time: demons, dark witchcraft, sexual abuse, emotional/mental abuse, physical abuse, murder, assault, imprisonment, manipulation, etc. When someone isn't letting Lauren have it, Syntian is busy extracting punishment for "crimes" against her except when he's being tortured by dear Angeline by having to pleasure her as much as she can stand. Anyone see a pattern emerging here? Sexual exploitation is the name of the game in Nightwind , and Boyett-Compo sets out to milk it for all she's daring enough to put out with a vengeance. To her credit, Boyett-Compo provides Syntian a rationale for most of his behavior. What won't a demon do in the name of love? Apparently everything is on the table for Syntian Cree including seducing a human man for his living sperm.

Bloodwind
by Charlotte Boyett-Compo, 1999
Review by Eva Wojcik-Obert Charlotte Boyett-Compo's Bloodwind could just as easily have been titled Earthgirls Wanna Go Home: But Not Without Their Alien Boy Toys . The elements of an alien race abducting human females to insure the survival of their Rysalian species, behavior modification through mind altering drugs, and space travel with ease provide the basis for some decent science fiction potential. Unfortunately these elements are undercut by Boyett-Compo's reliance on formulaic romance with sex scenes and dialogue which could have been lifted from the poorest examples of the romance genre. Our main characters Kam (the Rysalian) and Birdie (Earthling) do have potential to portray a rather interesting alien/human romance initiated in the setting of the behavior-modification unit where Kam is sent for punishment for a never-disclosed crime. Problems with the resulting relationship are grounded in the fact that the Rysalian Reaper Captain Kamerone Cree ("Kam") and Dr. Bridget Dunne ("Birdie") are unwittingly manipulated by subliminals to become obsessed with each other. Now what might have happened if a real attraction had developed between these two contrary characters? Who knows? A novel of some substance might have evolved. The relationship itself is supposed to provide the motivation for dear Kam to come over to the 'resistance,' which involves a lot of former Earth women and their current alien lovers who want to change the male-dominated system which aborts female fetuses in favor of males. This revolutionary line is poorly planned to the tune of "we'll do the same thing to the Rysalian males that they unwittingly did to their own females exterminate them!" Great fun!

After a virus accidentally escapes the laboratory and kills all the women of Rysalia, the men decided to start kidnapping women from other planets, including earth (Terra), in an attempt to continue their species. Of these women, the fertile ones are used as breeders, the infertile are used as prostitutes, and some with training and education, are allowed to work in the medical fields, Doctors, nurses, lab techs, etc. - but no matter their "work" they are all slaves, and each is owned by a man or an organization. Now after several decades, the women are almost ready to revolt. Kamerone Cree, a Captain in the elite military division of the Reapers, has been set up by the resistance forces in an effort to swing him over to their side. When Kamerone is judged guilty by the Board of Military Inquiry, he is turned over the a group of women doctors, for re-enforcement and punishment. The re-enforcement is by the use of very painful psychological drugs. During the process, the women add subliminal messages to program him and sway him in their direction. Dr. Bridget Dunne is a part of the team doing the re-enforcement, and she and Kamerone are attracted to each other.

Can you detail any future releases? 5) Who are some of your favorite E and print authors? My favorite print authors are John Sandford, David Wiltse and John Saul with Dean Koontz, Andrew Greeley and Ken Eulo running close seconds. My favorite e-authors are Patricia A. Rasey, Arianna Overton, Trace Edward Zaber, Kate Hill, and Penny Hussey....all, I am honored to say... I know and respect greatly. Patricia White and Carrie Masek are two e-authors whom I think are absolutely terrific and I am proud to call each of those mentioned friend. I would be remiss if I did not also mention Leta Nolan Childers and Jeff Strand who have helped put ebooks center stage with their remarkable writing. 6) How does your writing process start? Do you begin a book or series with plot or characters? 7) The WindLegends saga has a cult following. What do you feel has contributed to this appeal?
