    Buying books
Emerald City specialises is reviewing top quality science fiction and fantasy books. Some of these can be difficult to come by, especially if they are from small publishers, or are only published in the author's home country. However, there are a lot of potential options. Firstly you can buy from Amazon or Amazon UK through this web site. Doing so means that Emerald City gets commission, and this helps keep the zine free. There are links to Amazon's US and UK shops (denoted by national flags). If only one flag is shown the book in question is only available in the one country. When buying from Amazon, please bear in mind that the Emerald City review will probably have been created when the book was new, and only available in hardcover. You may want to check to see if a cheaper softcover version is now available. Also books are not always published at the same time on different sides of the Atlantic. A US reader may find it cheaper to buy the softcover from Amazon's UK operation than to buy a hardcover locally, and vice versa. Books may also be out of print in one country but not in the other.

Interesting article. A "death-check" system like the one soundofsuburbia linked to above seems like a real hassle, though. If I really wanted to make sure people knew it when I was gone, I'd just leave instructions with good friends or a lawyer to e-mail someone in particular or post at a certain site.

The Fortunate Fall by raphael carter. raphael carter's impressive debutnovel is very, very cool. Boy would I suck at writing reviews

If Oprah can do it, I can do it. These are some of my favorite books, albums, movies, and the like. It's fun for me to talk about them and I hope that maybe you'll try some of these and like them (if you do, let me know!). I keep stalling about putting this list online because it's not finished yet. So far it's mostly books and so far I haven't yet covered all of my favorites. But I figure you probably only want to read about so many things at a time, so what's the harm of putting these online now? Just know that this list is still woefully incomplete and that I'll be adding more items later. War for the Oaks by Emma Bull I'm happy to report that Emma Bull's classic novel War for the Oaks is due to finally be reprinted this July. Stock up now, folks. It's a book you read and reread and give to all your friends. It's set in Minneapolis and features great music and fey folk and um, it's cool. Emma Bull is great at writing about music, she captures the joy one experiences when listening to music or playing music like no one else I can think of. She's also got a good handle on magic and Minneapolis and all sorts of cool stuff. (I keep saying "cool," but that's what Emma's books are.)
