Leslie Charteris creator of "The Saint" Leslie Charles Bowyer Yin was born in Singapore on 12 May 1907, the son of a Chinese surgeon. He later adopted his English mother's surname of Charteris. His first novel, Meet the Tiger!, published in 1928, introduces The Saint, a gentleman-burglar named Simon Templar, who became the subject of many novels (by Charteris and others), movies, television series, magazines and comic strips. When the Saint became a popular subject for Hollywood movies, Charteris moved to America. He became an American citizen in 1946. The popularity of the Saint peaked from about 1953 to 1967, during which period Charteris edited The Saint Mystery Magazine. Leslie Charteris died in April 1993. Eingeladen in die Stadt New York wurde der Heilige von einem rachsüchtigen Millionär, der seinen Sohn an die Bande des Großen Mannes verloren hatte. Diese hatte den Sohn ermordet, als das Lösegeld nicht angemessen erschien, wie es sollte. Der Heilige soll eine Million Dollar erhalten, wenn er die Männer beseitigt, die für die Ermordung des Sohnes verantwortlich sein sollen. Gleichzeitig mit dem Heiligen kommt auch ein Telegramm von Scotland Yard in New York an. Inspektor Teal warnt die New Yorker Polizei vor dem Heiligen, vergeblich. Denn noch am selben Tag stirbt einer der Entführer durch einen gezielten Schuss aus der Pistole von Simon Templar. Der Heilige ist in New York angekommen.
