As it approaches midnight, and if it is meant to be, then you may catch one of the Gnomes or Woodspirits winking at you, as the hallmark of Clark's art is that it is always on the verge of coming to life. From Jefferson to Beethoven to King David to the famous NASCAR drivers to his trademark Gnomes, Clark’s sculptures provide the mirror that all higher art affordsthe mirror within which we see the eternal aspects of our deeper selves reflected. In this predominantly postmodern era, where novels shy away from linear plots; poetry commonly dismisses rhyme, structure, and reason; and art often lacks a resemblance to anything other than itself, Clark’s work is not celebrated in the pages of The New Yorker or mentioned in the privy artistic circles in the Village and Soho. It is celebrated in what some would call a far more worthy arenathe popular human spirit. Clark has created approximately 1,000 unique artworks, which are reproduced for collectors in a Mooresville facility. With over 3 million collectors and 3,000 distributors, Clark is known worldwide for his wide spectrum of work, which ranges from whimsical Gnomes and Woodspirits to his exalted bronze renditions of King David, Lincoln, and Beethoven.

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to his very loving and very Catholic parents Eileen and Arthur Clark, Tom let it be known early on that he would someday like to be a comedian. Often saying to his parents, "I would someday like to be a comedian."
In grade school Tom was the self proclaimed 'class clown'. As one teacher fondly recalls, "Tom used to memorize the monologues from the Johnny Carson show. Then he would go up in front of the whole class and forget it. The kids really got a kick out of it". Tom's interest in comedy waned somewhat in high school as he began to take a greater interest in apathy.
Following high school Tom attended St. Norbert College in Green Bay, WI, where he was a performer on both the radio and television station. He graduated with a major of International Studies and spent the next six months volunteering in Mexico. While in Mexico he fell in love, but six months into the relationship found out that the love of his life only spoke Spanish. Tom sadly recalls, "I thought she was just talking really fast, but then I got the 'Dear Juan' letter and that's when I knew it was over".
Disillusioned Tom headed back to Milwaukee where he took a job as a social worker. Hoping to increase his income, and tired of collecting aluminum cans along the highways, Tom formally began his comedy career in 1994. Tom finally arrived in May 1997 when he opened for Pauly Shore at a rock club in Milwaukee. Tom opened with a song that was sung in Spanish "Viva la Gente" (Up with People), encouraging everyone to sing along with him. He was promptly booed by the audience, but did his allotted time of fifteen minutes and concluded his set with "The Potato Song". Following his performance he was approached by Pauly Shore's manager who said, "That's your act! You sing about a potato?!?!" Despite his interest, Tom decided to continue his venture without any representation.

Tom Clark's Totally Accurate Clock
There are number of interesting things which a SETI enthusiast can do with a high precision time and frequency standard. We use them to calibrate or control our receiver frequency coverage, determine accurate local sidereal time (and hence right ascention of our drift-scan radiotelescopes), and to provide a common time reference for correlating long-baseline interferrometry observations. Unfortunately, the technologies used in the past for accomplishing these goals, Cesium or Rubidium frequency standards and Hydrogen masers, are priced beyond the reach of most experimenters. Recently, three lower cost alternatives have presented themselves. Dr. Thomas A. Clark (W3IWI), the NASA scientist whose name is virtually synonymous with very long baseline interferrometry, has been grappling with the time and frequency standard problem for his geodesy experiments. By deriving timing information from the atomic clock-controlled Global Positioning Satellites, he is able to produce a relatively low cost time and frequency standard with long term accuracy rivaling a Hydrogen maser. Tom Clark's Totally Accurate Clock project is providing SETI League members with a low-cost precision time and frequency standard. The circuit board shown here interfaces via an RS-232 connection to a personal computer's serial port. The metal box seen mounted above the circuit board is a Garmin GPS, with its patch antenna on top. In addition to providing accurate position information and both Greenwich Mean Sidereal Time (GMST) and Local Mean Sidereal Time (LMST) to atomic-clock accuracy, the unit can be used to slave a precision crystal oscillator to 1e-09 (one part in a thousand million) accuracy.

Upon being awarded a Fulbright Fellowship in 1963, Clark left for England to study at Cambridge and later, Essex University. When Hill resigned his position as Poetry Editor of The Paris Review in 1964, he recommended his former student as his replacement and Clark, a 22 year-old who had yet to publish a book, found himself an editor for one of the most important literary magazines of the day. Clark quickly demonstrated his good instincts by printing early work by many of the poets who would later be associated with the New York School. While at Essex, Clark edited and printed his famous Once series of mimeographed magazines. He was also co-founder and editor with the young British poet, Andrew Crozier, of the short-lived but important Wivenhoe Park Review On returning to the U.S. in 1967, Clark settled in New York and became an integral part of the poetry scene then emerging on the Lower East Side.
