Don Woolford - 15 November 2002

Martin Love today led an Australia A onslaught which demonstrated England had done nothing to solve its bowling problems. Love, who's become a serial tormentor of the tourists, hit an unbeaten 201 as the Australians cruised to 3-353 declared on the first day of the three-day match, England's only opportunity to find form before the second Test in Adelaide. The tourists were 1-50 in reply at stumps. After hitting an unbeaten 250 for Queensland against England a fortnight ago, Love continued to underline his status as the best top order batsman outside the Test team. Admittedly England rested two of its frontline bowlers, Andy Caddick and Ashley Giles. But it did use two of its formerly walking wounded, Steve Harmison and Andrew Flintoff, and replacement Alex Tudor. Two of the three are likely to be picked for Adelaide. Oddly Chris Silverwood, who was flown out from England this week as another replacement, was made 12th man and is presumably not in the Test frame. The pace attack's performance left assistant coach Graham Dilley exasperated.

Michael Clarke has been selected in the Australia A side to face England in Hobart in a three day match beginning on Friday. The 21 year-old New South Wales batsman was professional at Ramsbottom last season and toured South Africa with Australia A in August. Clarke set a new Lancashire League record by scoring an unbeaten 200 against Enfield in May. He has been tipped as being close to selection for the full national side and currently averages over 100 in First-class cricket this season. Former Colne professional Marcus North of Western Australia is also in the side to face England. http://www.stthomas.edu/libraries/special/manuscript/clarke.htm
Austin Clarke (1896 - 1974) Letters Biographical Note: One of the foremost Irish poets of his generation, Austin Clarke (1896 - 1974) was born in Dublin and attended University College. He made his living as a free-lance author, book reviewer and broadcaster first in London (1922 - 1937) and later in Dublin. While influenced by Yeats and other Celtic revivalists, Clarke soon developed his own style of writing. This style was much influenced by Ireland's early-medieval Christian culture one he thought was eventually spoilt by the introduction of Roman Catholicism into Ireland. Scope and Content: The majority of the letters in this collection are between Philip Marcus and Austin Clarke. The letters discuss Clarke's views on Marcus' writings as well as his insight on medieval Irish literature and the influence of W. B. Yeats on Irish literature. Provenance: Purchased in April 1997 from Emerald Isle Books, Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Abstract of INFO-MAC archived encoded Mac binary file 'cfg/mac-namer-20.hqx' Uploaded 01/22/1997 276677 bytes From: (Joe "Marcus" Clarke) marcus@ocala.cs.miami.edu Subject: MacNamer 2.0 MacNamer version 2.0 ©1996 MarcusCom 1/4/97 The installer installs eight files on your hard drive. Four are scripting additions, File IO, XCMD OSAX, Copy File, ResMover and they are installed in the Scripting Additions folder in the Extensions Folder. Once the renaming is done, you can remove them, but if you are an AppleScript buff, you might want to check them out. The readme for XCMD OSAX is also included. The three remaining files, including this README are installed wherever you want them. Requires: * System 7.5.x * AppleScript 1.1.x * Finder Scripting Extension * At least 4 megs of RAM I'm sure that by now, most serious Mac users have upgraded to at least System 7.5. If not, what are you waiting for?! But any System 7.5.x user will tell you that once you do, you'll lose the individuality of your Mac. All the machine names have been replaced by either " Macintosh," " Power Macintosh," or " PowerBook" depending on the kind of Mac you have. There are a few programs out there that help to remedy this problem, but unfortunately, they are memory eating extensions that must always be loaded to work. MacNamer is an AppleScript applet that uses two non-standard Scripting Additions (included), and Finder scriptability (included with System 7.5.x) to edit your active system file. Don't worry, I've tested this out on a few machines running a different versions of system 7.5.x, and it works fine. It even backs up the old copy of the system file for you. And, not only will MacNamer give your Mac back it's real name, but any name you want (up to 255 charcters)! To use it, simply double-click on the MacNamer icon, and let it do the rest. As with any resource editing, ALWAYS disable virus protection BEFORE you run the program. It won't hurt the original if you don't, but you could and probably will damage the edited version. After it finishes, it will restart your Mac. If you have any comments or bug reports, send them to marcus@ocala.cs.miami.edu. This program is free for individual use. Please, if you want to put this on an archive CD, let me know. Also, check out my web site and library of cgis that I've written for UNIX and Mac at http://ocala.cs.miami.edu/~jmcla. If you would like the source for this program, or would like to give me a project to work on, email me at marcus@ocala.cs.miami.edu. Joe "Marcus" Clarke (C)1996,1997 Marcus Group/ MarcusCom Division

Lecturer in Human Geography, Loughborough University, England. Lecturer in Human Geography, Liverpool John Moores University, England. Project Leader (Eurostat), Portsmouth Polytechnic, England. Research Assistant (ESRC), University of Bristol, England. Research Interests and current projects My research focuses on new theoretical directions in Human Geography, drawn from the sciences, social sciences, and the arts and humanities. Over the past decade I have been attempting to construct a new way of doing Human Geography, which I have come to call Poststructuralist Geography. My main sources of inspiration have been recent developments in critical human geography-such as structural Marxism, actor-network theory, and post-positivist spatial science-, twentieth-century continental philosophy, and social and cultural theory. I have been especially inspired by the innovative spatial practices of writers such as Jean Baudrillard, Gilles Deleuze, Jacques Derrida, and Jean-François Lyotard. Their reconceptualization of spatiality, temporality, and the taking place of events has enabled me to develop a theoretical practice that permits new kinds of geography which I hope are interesting, important, and effective.
