I live in Sydney, Australia ( I think you have a Sydney over there ) and I found David sometime in 2001 in a roundabout way ... He came to Sydney, but I didn't know who he was. A radio DJ here had friends who knew of him and who told him to get him on air. So he did. But I didn't hear him. I was at college at the time and when I was driving home I had the station on (it's a talkback station with no ads, wonderful) and heard another musician, country and western, who is a really great guy with a great sense of humour, saying how wonderful it was to hear David on air. He has all his CDs. So I thought, I wonder what this guy is like. Then I was reading a book called The Sacred Romance , and there was a song of David's quoted there ["Show The Way" from Big Horizon]. I really liked it. Then I heard another DJ doing a spot on various types of music. He played ''Guitar Shopping" from What You Whispered and I really loved it, so I went looking for David's music.

Volume 19 Number 4 1991 September Just when you think you have seen every possible variation on the theme of alphabet books, a new one comes along that is fresh and exciting. Lyn Cook's A Canadian ABC is just such a book. Cook has composed verse to accompany Thoreau MacDonald's illustrations, which originally appeared in 1931 in A Canadian Child's ABC A publisher's introduction explains that two sets of Cook's verse are included: the first, quatrains with overt rhymes; the second, free verse with internal rhymes and varying rhythmic patterns. In both cases, Cook's work is the perfect complement to MacDonald's black-and-white drawings, with words and pictures combining to create a wonderful mood and spirit of Canadian history. As well as being a beautiful alphabet book, A Canadian ABC would be enjoyed by students of Canadian history, creative writing or art history. I highly recommend this title for all age groups.

From there I moved to the Australian National Botanic Gardens, Canberra as a botanist involved in research and the development of the Gardens. During my tenure there I was appointed Australian Botanical Liaison Officer at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, London, for 1981-2. I moved to my present post at Botany and Zoology at ANU in 1991. In 1997-8 I spent a sabbatical at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, researching southern hemisphere biogeography with Prof Peter Linder. I was appointed head of Botany and Zoology in 2000. Research Interests I am involved in: - revisionary and nomenclatural studies (classifying and naming plants) - developing identification tools such as floras and interactive computer keys - cladistics (reconstructing evolutionary history) - biogeography (relating evolutionary history to earth history) and - comparative biology (evolutionary process such as speciation and adaptation).
