Fiction Factor - What initial reactions did you receive from friends/family when you announced that you would be e-publishing your work?
Patricia Crossley - They were delighted. Most people don't seem to think this is 'inferior' in any way, but many ask where they can buy a print copy - even those with computers don't always want to read on the screen.
I'm looking forward to print on demand and to the new e-readers to add to the number of those wanting the book.
FF - Would you consider e-publishing to be a viable stepping stone into the publishing world?
PC - It can be. I had an opportunity to be interviewed by a senior editor from a prominent publishing house at a conference recently to pitch one of my books. The editor said she was interested because I had established a prior publishing track record with my three e-novels. I think reviews in reputable mags also help.
FF - In your opinion, has e-publishing helped or hindered your writing career?

"Historical time-travel: life in 1600, 2000, and 2400."
Katrina Lunne, a modern day physician in London, has an accidental run-in with a time traveler from the year 2400. She winds up in the year 1600, and he has to rescue her before she changes history or gets burned as a witch. Aidan, the time traveler from the future, was visiting London in the year 2000 to recover art work about to be lost in a fire. Katrina's dog knocks Aidan down in the park at a crucial instant, when he is about to be "beamed" back to his time; and she and her pet get bumped back 400 years, while he travels forward. Not what I expected. I was looking for something more along the lines of a time travel romance similar to those by K.M. Moning. Instead, I got a history lesson. Not much romance or sex, and lots of detail about living conditions in the 1600's. A bit heavy for me due to the history. But if you are a history buff, then this might be your cup of tea. I think the author was probably very factual about the lives of people in the 1600's, and how a woman from the 20th century would not fit in. While well-written from an historical viewpoint and with well-developed characters and storyline, I have never been fond of books about this particular period in time.

An i nterview with Patricia Crossley
Patricia is what you might call an ambassador for electronic publishing mainly because her novels cannot be easily categorised for the benefit of traditional publishers! Unusually for a fiction writer perhaps, she finds using a word processor a liberating experience. What books have you had published, and what format are they in? I have three full length novels that are all e-published in English. "A Suitable Father" is a contemporary romance with a bit of mystery from New Concepts Publishing. The story is set in the Pacific North West. "Journey's End" recently won four stars from Romantic Times. It's a time travel romance, set in England in the past, present and future. "Beloved Stranger" is a paranormal romance set in Eastern Canada and has a background of a little known Quebec rebellion in 1837. All three books have recently been contracted to Kripgans Verlag in Kehl, Germany, and are being translated into German with a view to print and e editions. New Concepts Publishing is starting to produce all their books in mass market paperback format, so mine will be on the list in a few months.

ISBN: 1-58608-166-7 Riveting! From about the 8th page I was completely captured. Time-traveler Aidan arrives in London 1999, journeying from the year 2399. His goal was to rescue a painting from oblivion. His result was to accidentally send Dr. Karina Lunne back in time. Becoming aware of his error, Aidan sets out in immediate pursuit, seeking to rectify the wrong before history is forever altered. Thinking herself victim of a mugging, Kari wakes to an altered reality. The only thing familiar was her beloved Irish Wolfhound, Ben, who was pressed protectively to her side. If not a mugging, then victim of an elaborate hoax? Why would someone go to such lengths for a practical joke? Eventually, Kari was forced to accept a shocking truth. She had somehow been transported back to Elizabethan England. My God, how could she find her way home? Farm laborer Aidan Torrance was her only stability, a strong lifeline in a world gone mad. Gentle and soft-voiced in a time when patriarchal dominance was the norm, his silver-gray eyes held depths of unexpected compassion. And knowledge of worlds unknown. As a doctor Kari had seen many a bared masculine body. What was it about Aidan that caused her blood to pound? Her mouth to long? Her fingers to strive for his skin?

ISBN: 1-931761-50-7 There's always something great about reading a book where you know the place that it takes place in because you've been there. When I read that Patricia Crossley lives in Victoria, I said to myself, "How great to live there. It's a place I really love." Little did I know that I was going to love it just a little bit more because the basis of this book takes place in and around Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. I've been to Victoria a couple of times and know many of the places Ms. Crossley describes in this book. I've seen the Parliament buildings at night when they are all lit up, I've been up the coast line and I've been to Vancouver. It's really nice to read a book where you know the places that you are reading about. Nevertheless, I must move on here. Jasmine Hargrove, better known to the world and her friends as Jazz, is a wonderful, top notch, round-the-world news reporter who never knows where her next assignment might be. At the moment, she's in the depths of Africa, following a lead on a story. Pete Browning, a news photographer, is on her team and while she's known Pete for years, they've never really gotten to know each other more then just acquaintances.

"A fascinating reincarnation romance"
In 1838 in the Upper Canada wilderness, Queen's Volunteer Cavalry Captain George Macmillan steps into a snow hidden animal trap. A man arrives, but is pleased to have snared George. Instead of rescuing the injured soldier, the man bids George a good life in heaven where he might eventually meet Isabelle. Sarah Macmillan fled Toronto because she needs to start over after taking blows professionally and personally. Her employer, antique dealer/interior designer, apparently laundered money while her former-boyfriend sold drugs, before leaving town for the Caribbean. Unfortunately for Sarah her newly purchased remote abode has a reputation too,as drug dealers used the house. Mountie Pierre Martin thinks three connections to illegal operations are too coincidental, and so he decides to go undercover and observe Sarah. He persuades Sarah to rent him a cabin. However, the last thing the law enforcement official expected is to have feelings for his landlady, especially since he loathes anyone connected to drug trafficking because dealers had killed his family. Even stranger is the sense he has that he and Sarah share a past, and that someone else is aware of it and plans to insure that the duo remains apart, even if the actions of 1838 are repeated in the present..
