DAVIES, JOHN OWEN Name: John Owen Davies Rank/Branch: O2/US Air Force Unit: 41st TRS Date of Birth: 06 March 1942 Home City of Record: Reading PA Date of Loss: 04 February 1967 Country of Loss: North Vietnam Loss Coordinates: 221546N 1055300E (WK910620) Status (in 1973): Released POW Category: 2 Aircraft/Vehicle/Ground: EB66C Other Personnel in Incident: Jack W. Bomar; John Fer (both released POWs); Russell A. Poor (missing); Herb Doby; Woodrow H. Wilburn (remains returned) Source: Compiled by Homecoming II Project 15 March 1990 with the assistance of one or more of the following: raw data from U.S. Government agency sources, correspondence with POW/MIA families, published sources, interviews. Updated by the P.O.W. NETWORK. REMARKS: 730218 RELSD BY DRV SYNOPSIS: The Douglas EB66C Skywarrior was outfitted as an electronic warfare aircraft which carried roughly 5 tons of electronic gear in addition to its flight crew of three and technical personnel. The EB66C featured a pressurized capsule installed in the bomb bay, that accommodated four technicians whose responsibility was to operate electronic reconnaissance gear. On February 4, 1967, an EB66C was dispatched on an operational mission over North Vietnam. The crew and technicians that day included Maj. Jack W. Bomar, 1Lt. John O. Davies, Capt. John Fer, Capt. Russell A. Poor, Capt. Herb Doby, and Maj. Woodrow Hoover. At a point about 40 miles from the China border in Bac Thai Province, North Vietnam, the EB66C was shot down. Bomar, Fer and Davies were captured. The fates of Doby, Poor and Wilburn were uncertain. In the spring of 1973, 591 Americans were released from prison camps in Vietnam, including Bomar, Davies and Fer. They had been POWs for just over six years. Poor, Doby and Wilburn remained Missing in Action. In 1977, the Vietnamese returned remains which were identified as being those of Capt. Herb Doby, but denied any knowledge of the fates of Poor and Wilburn. In 1990, it was announced that the Vietnamese had "discovered" and returned the remains of Maj. Woodrow Wilburn. For 23 years, the Vietnamese have denied knowledge of the fates of the missing from the EB66C they shot down on February 4, 1967. Among the entire crew, only Poor remains missing. Disturbing testimony was given to Congress in 1980 that the Vietnamese "stockpiled" the remains of Americans to return at politically advantageous times. Could Poor be waiting, in a casket, for just such a moment? Even more disturbing are the nearly 10,000 reports received by the U.S. relating to Americans missing in Southeast Asia. Many authorities who have examined this information (largely classified), have reluctantly come to the conclusion that many Americans are still alive in Southeast Asia. Could Poor be among these? Perhaps the most compelling questions when remains are returned are, "Is it really who they say it is?", and "How and when did he die?" As long as reports continue to be received which indicate Americans are still alive in Indochina, we can only regard the return of remains as a politically expedient way to show "progress" on accounting for American POW/MIAs. As long as reports continue to be received, we must wonder how many are alive. As long as even one American remains alive, held against his will, we must do everything possible to bring him home alive. November 1996 John Davies retired from the United States Air Force as a Lt. Colonel. He and his wife Anne reside in California.

34. George Borrow's Wales
Review of 'Wild Wales' by john davies of Planet magazine.
http://www.planetmagazine.org.uk/html/archive/borrow.htm
Would you like to order a copy of this edition? From
George Borrow's Wales
by John Davies, in Planet George Borrow ventured to Wales for the first time in July 1854 when, at the age of fifty-one, he began the walk which was to be the subject of Wild Wales . Writing of his journey, his wife noted: "He keeps a daily journal of all that goes on, so that he can make a most amusing book in a month whenever he wishes to do so". He began organising his material immediately on returning home but the first draft was not completed until 1857, the year of the publication of his Romany Rye . A further five years passed before the publication of Wild Wales , the delay occasioned perhaps by the chilly reception given to Romany Rye . The 1854 visit, beginning at Llangollen on 27 July, included fairly intensive travels in parts of the north and was then followed by a sweep down through Cardiganshire and Carmarthenshire to Swansea, Merthyr, Newport and Chepstow where on 16 November he took the train to London.

On Principle, v1n2 Summer 1993 by: Stephen Davies Most politicians enjoy a brief moment in the public eye and then are gone, so soon forgotten that within ten years few can remember what they did or what they stood for. Some however make such a deep impression, for good or ill, that they will remain alive in the popular memory long after their career is over, even after their death. Margaret Thatcher is one of these. By any standard Margaret Thatcher is an extraordinary politician. During her period as Prime Minister she had a profound and permanent impact on British politics. She changed the rules of political debate, transformed her own party, and altered and amended aspects of British life which had seemed fixed and permanent. Love her or hate her, no one could be indifferent to her. No one could mistake what she believed in and what she stood for. A "conviction politician," she had the rare distinction of having an ideology named after herThatcherism. Today it is easy to forget how extraordinary her career and achievements have been. For a woman to become the leader of the Conservative party and then Prime Minister was unthinkable before she did it. More important, she challenged, and changed the definition of what was politically feasible, not only in Britain, but around the world. Pundits could see no future for a leader who so sharply questioned the conventional wisdom. When she became a party leader, the

Raymond Douglas Davies Interview
(Sunday, 3rd May 1998)
Interviewed by phone from Atlanta, by John C. Falstaff.
JCF: Are you in Kansas City? RDD: Yeah, I'm in the high street, I'm in a place called... where am I? Where are we Bob? We're in Lawrence, Kansas. JCF: How has the tour been going so far? RDD: It's been really great. JCF: The Storyteller arose out of promotional tie-ins with your book X-Ray a few years ago. Would you characterize the book as 70% accurate fact and 30% artistic licence, or how would you characterize it? RDD: No, I think the artistic part of it is in its application, putting the think down. It's all based on fact. JCF: I see. RDD: Oh yeah! JCF: This isn't the first time you've looked back with affection at your early days in song - I'm referring to the show. E.g., "Come Dancing" [1983] and "Did Ya" [1991]. Are those songs part of the stage show? RDD: Er, no. JCF: Are we going to see "Did Ya" again? It came and went quickly. RDD: "Did Ya"? Yeah, I'd forgotten all about that. I think "Did Ya" was more of a step back, a look at the time when everybody thought it was great. As a more realistic approach to what London was about in that period. "Come Dancing" was a celebration of a time, obviously. "Did Ya" might resurface down the line, there's more. It was intended to stand as a track on its own rather then create a whole style. Open up a whole can of ideas about things like "Come Dancing". "Come Dancing" is actually going to be a musical that we're working on at the moment. A stage show.
