21. Dr. Seuss - Medicine Cabinet
A short collection of facts about dr. seuss's life.
http://www.rivalquest.com/drseuss/bio.html
A brief, rough biography of Dr. Seuss Here is a brief, mostly correct, overview of Dr. Seuss, Theodor Seuss Geisel. - Theodor Seuss Geisel was born 2 March 1904 in Springfield, MA. He graduated Dartmouth College in 1925, and proceeded on to Oxford University with the intent of acquiring a doctorate in literature. At Oxford he met Helen Palmer, who he wed in 1927. He returned from Europe in 1927, and began working for a magazine called Judge, the leading humor magazine in America at the time, submitting both cartoons and humorous articles for them. Additionally, he was submitting cartoons to Life, Vanity Fair and Liberty. In some of his works, he'd made reference to an insecticide called Flit. These references gained notice, and led to a contract to draw comic ads for Flit. This association lasted 17 years, gained him national exposure, and coined the catchphrase "Quick, Henry, the Flit!" - In 1936 on the way to a vaction in Europe, listening to the rhythm of the ship's engines, he came up with And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, which was then promptly rejected by the first 43 publishers he showed it to. Eventually in 1937 a friend published the book for him, and it went on to at least moderate success. - During WW II, Geisel joined the army and was sent to Hollywood. Captain Geisel would write for Frank Capra's Signal Corps Unit (for which he won the Legion of Merit) and do documentaries (he won Oscar's for Hitler Lives and Design for Death). He also created a cartoon called Gerald McBoing-Boing which also won him an Oscar.

Introduction
A long time ago (around 1994 or so) I went looking for information about Dr. Seuss on the net. I was expecting to find a lot; after all, he seemed like a natural subject for people to create pages about. I didn't find any. So, in a fit of despair, disappointment and desperation, I set about creating one. I gathered together a few parodies I found on the net, copied in all the entries from the current Books in Print did a couple of searches in the Internet Movie Database, and put it all in one place. This inspired people to do two things. 1) Send me email thanking me for having this page, and 2) Inspired them to create their own Dr. Seuss pages, having seen how empty mine were. Move to 1997. There are a number of Dr. Seuss sites out there. Some good, some bad, some official, some not. Mine still seems to be the only one with parodies on it, but y'know, that's not saying much these days. So, in a fit of frustration, and after-work energy, I go about re-vamping the pages.

Welcome Christmas (both versions)
Author: Dr. Seuss
This is the song sung by the Whos of Whoville on Christmas. The first version is probably more suited for simple caroling, and the second for more choir oriented activities. The first is sung while the Grinch watches from on high, and the second is at the end (maybe during the closing credits - I don't recall off-hand). Welcome Christmas Welcome Christmas

DR. SEUSS' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS
* * (PG) November 17, 2000 The Grinch: Jim Carrey
Mayor May Who: Jeffrey Tambor
Cindy Lou Who: Taylor Momsen
Martha May Whovier: Christine Baranski
Betty Lou Who: Molly Shannon
Narrator: Anthony Hopkins
Universal Pictures presents a film directed by Ron Howard. Written by Jeffrey Price and Peter S. Seaman. Based on the book by Dr. Seuss. Running time: 102 minutes. Rated PG (for some crude humor).
BY ROGER EBERT T he Grinch who stole Christmas has a reason for growing up to be so bitter. As a child, he was picked on for being green and having hair all over his body and a beard. Show me the child who would not pick on such a classmate and I will show you Baby Jesus. But if "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas" had only worked on that angle some more, had drummed up a little more sympathy for the Grinch, maybe we wouldn't want to pick on him too. This is a movie that devotes enormous resources to the mistaken belief that children and their parents want to see a dank, eerie, weird movie about a sour creature who lives on top of a mountain of garbage, scares children, is mean to his dog, and steals everyone's Christmas presents. Yes, there's a happy ending, and even a saintly little girl who believes the Grinch may not be all bad, but there's not much happiness before the ending, and the little girl is more of a plot device than a character. The Grinch is played by Jim Carrey, who works as hard as an actor has ever worked in a movie, to small avail. He leaps, he tumbles, he contorts, he sneers, he grimaces, he taunts, he flies through the air and tunnels through the garbage mountain, he gets stuck in chimneys and blown up in explosions, and all the time. . . .

Introduction Ajax Cups Bock Flit ... Warren Telechron Before Theodore Seuss Geisel found fame as a children's book author, the primary outlet for his creative efforts was magazines. His first steady job after he left Oxford was as a cartoonist for Judge , a New York City publication. In 1927 one of these cartoons opened the way to a more profitable career, as well as greater public exposure, as an advertising illustrator. This fortuitous cartoon depicts a medieval knight in his bed, facing an dragon who had invaded his room, and lamenting, "Darn it all, another dragon. And just after I'd sprayed the whole castle with Flit" (a well-known brand of bug spray). According to an anecdote in Judith and Neil Morgan's book Dr. Seuss and Mr. Geisel

"OH, THE PLACES YOU'LL GO!
THERE IS FUN TO BE DONE! THERE ARE

From: Oh, The Places You'll Go!
Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known to the world as the beloved Dr. Seuss, was born in 1904 on Howard Street in Springfield, Massachusetts. Ted's father, Theodor Robert, and grandfather were brewmasters in the city. His mother, Henrietta Seuss Geisel, often soothed her children to sleep by "chanting" rhymes remembered from her youth. Ted credited his mother with both his ability and desire to create the rhymes for which he became so well known.
Although the Geisels enjoyed great financial success for many years, the onset of World War I and Prohibition presented both financial and social challenges for the German immigrants. Nonetheless, the family persevered and again prospered, providing Ted and his sister, Marnie, with happy childhoods.
The influence of Ted's memories of Springfield can be seen throughout his work. Drawings of Horton the Elephant meandering along streams in the Jungle of Nool, for example, mirror the watercourses in Springfield's Forest Park from the period.
