HUTCHINSON ENCYCLOPEDIA Duras, Marguerite French writer, dramatist, and film-maker. Her work includes short stories (Des Journes entires dans les arbres 1954, stage adaptation Days in the Trees 1965), plays ( La Musica/The Music 1967), and film scripts ( Hiroshima, mon amour India Song 1975). She also directed stage productions and film versions of her work. Her novels include Le Vice-consul/The Vice-Consul (1966), evoking an existentialist world from the setting of Calcutta (now Kolkata) L'Amant/The Lover (1984 Prix Goncourt), which deals with a love affair between a young French woman and a Chinese man and Emily L. , nasceu a 4 de Abril de 1914 na Indochina, Vietname.
Aos 17 anos partiu para França e fixou-se em Paris. Escritora e realizadora de cinema, é considerada como um dos nomes cimeiros da literatura moderna francesa, da linha nouveau roman . Estreou-se nas letras com alguns artigos influenciados pelo existencialismo de Sartre, na revista " Les temps moderns ".
Foi uma autora que transpôs nos seus livros os problemas da vida contemporânea, que de início foram analisados no campo da patologia social. Nos seus romances, prefere insinuar ou sugerir, deixando ao leitor todas as hipóteses quanto ao "destino" das personagens que criou, de um certo modo decalcadas da vida real.
Algumas das suas obras foram adaptadas ao cinema nomeadamente:
