Historic Computers
This page gives some details of the computers that I currently have in my collection. I started collecting them about 3 years ago 4 years, as I began to see machines that I had used, at various companies, being thrown out. Being a natural hoarder, with an interest in computer history, I started to collect them. Most of them date from the early-to-mid 1980s. They are all UN*X boxes of some flavour or other, except for the transputer stuff. I'd really like to collect one of each of the machines I've worked on, but the CDC Cyber 205, ICL 2960, CRAY 1, DEC VAX 11/780 and Unisys 2200 are all quite large. I am still looking for a DEC LSI-11, though. I have listed the resource links that I know of for each machine. If you know of any others, or have a machine you want to get rid of, let me know . More detailed information, and photographs of the machines and their internals, will appear here eventually. ICL PERQ WCW MG1 inmos B004 Sun 3 ... Resources
ICL/3RCC PERQ
The PERQ was the first commercial graphics workstations, with a 768x1024 portrait screen (later 1280x1024 landscape), and a mouse-like pointing device (tablet or bit-pad).

The Life of Ian Fleming
by John Cork , The Ian Fleming Foundation Ian Fleming lived a remarkably uncompromising life in a world full of compromises. To sum up his life in the short space available would be an impossible task even for the most efficient writer, so all that follows is a simple pastiche. Further reading is highly recommended.
Family Background
Born in 1908 as the son of Valentine Fleming, and the grandson of the wealthy Scottish banker Robert Fleming, Ian Lancaster Fleming grew up the member of a rare class of Englishmen for whom all options are open. The privilege of class and respect came not merely from his grandfather's money, as wealth alone in England does not guarantee open doors. The Fleming family earned their social stripes with service and blood. Ian's father was a service-oriented land-owner in Oxfordshire and a member of Parliament. When Valentine Fleming died in the Great War, Ian was 8 days shy of his ninth birthday. Winston Churchill wrote the obituary for The Times. Fleming's mother, Evelyn St. Croix Rose Fleming, inherited Valentine's large estate in trust, making her a very wealthy woman. The trust, though, cut her out should she ever re-marry. This provision virtually guaranteed that she would remain forever Valentine's widow, regardless of other loves or circumstances. These financial chains of Valentine Fleming's will set the stage for the high-stakes financial pressures which would always dog Ian Fleming's life. Valentine's ghost lingered over Ian in many other ways. His father would always be the daring young hero, larger than life, articulate, straight as an arrow. In childhood prayers the Fleming children were instructed to pray to be as good as their father. For Ian, that charge proved too tall an order.

Z by birthday from the calendar Credits and feedback Ian (Lancaster) Fleming (1908-1964) pseudonym Atticus British journalist, secret service agent, writer, whose most famous creation was the superhero James Bond, agent 007. Fleming spent some years with British Intelligence, but his books are far from reality - they offer colorful locations, beautiful women, and exciting and inventive adventures. Nowadays the character of James Bond is as integral part of the popular culture as Winnie-the-Pooh or Tarzan. Although Bond's attitude toward's women is considered dated, the books have not lost their popularity. "It was a dark, clean-cut face, with a three-inch scar showing whitely down the sunburned skin of the right cheek. The eyes were wide and level under straight, rather long black brows. The hair was black, parted on the left, and carelessly brushed so that a thick black comma fell down over the right eyebrow. The longish straight nose ran down to a short upper lip below which was a wide and finely drawn but cruel mouth. The line of jaw was straight and firm. A section of dark suit, white short and black knitted tie completed the picture." (James Bond in From Russia, with Love

The plot
Cuba is a state with many gangsters and criminals. One of them has stolen a lot of money and wants to bring the money out of Cuba. So he buys much property. He also does so in Jamaica. In Jamaica there is a very large estate: "Content". Its owners are the Havelocks. One day a killer called Gonzales visits the Havelocks and wants to buy the estate. But the Havelocks don’t want to sell the land and so Gonzales kills them, because they have a daughter and he thinks that she might sell "Content". But he has made a big mistake: The Havelocks are friends of "M", the chief of the Secret Service. When he hears about the murder he asks 007 to help him. Bond agrees. After some paperwork Bond finds out that the boss of Gonzales is Hammerstein and that he lives in Canada at the moment. Bond goes to Ottawa, where he meets a policeman who gives him information about Hammerstein’s big villa. He also gives him the tip to go there pretending to be a hunter. Bond does so, and after a long walk through the forest he finds the villa. Carefully he looks for a good hiding place. But when he wants to kill him, a young woman stops him. It is Judy, the daughter of the Havelocks. She wants to avenge her parents with bow and arrow. Bond explains the situation and in the end they kill Hammerstein together. After that Bond goes back to London and Judy to Jamaica.
