June 9, 1963. Andy Warhol meets GERARD MALANGA . Warhol had asked CHARLES HENRI FORD if he knew anybody who could help him with silkscreening. Ford suggested Gerard Malanga, a 5' 6 1/2" student at Wagner College on Staten Island. Gerard had also been a dancer on Alan Freed's Big Beat television show. The show was closed down when Freed was busted in a payola scandal. frightening According to Bob Colacello, Andy Warhol hired Gerard Malanga (who he described as an "art student and budding poet") in 1962. Gerard had spent the summer of 1962 silkscreening neckties in the garment district.

View Magazine's Marcel Duchamp Special Issue, 1945: Introduction.
The young American poet Charles Henri Ford started View View as an avant-garde literary magazine with Surrealist interests. View magazine ran from September 1940 through March 1947, appearing quarterly and monthly as financial circumstances permitted. Ford initially intended View to be a journal of contemporary events compiled of writings by his literary friends in Europe. The magazine soon evolved beyond this news-oriented format to include color covers, additional advertisements, numerous illustrations, and more ambitious designs by Ford's assistant editor, Parker Tyler. View magazine offers the scholar of World War II-era American modernism a wealth of potential avenues for study. At its most successful, View was reminiscent of the French Surrealist magazine Minotaure . Ford modeled View after Minotaure 's lavish production and wide-ranging interests in "arts plastiques - poËsie - musique - architecture - ethnographie et mythologie spectacles - études et observations psychanalytiques." Historian Susan Nessen has compared the two periodicals and noted that, like

Organizational History
From 1945 to 1950, Oscar Baron, then still known by the family name of Baradinsky, published over twenty titles from his Alicat Book Shop Press in Yonkers, New York. Eighteen of these comprise the "Outcast" Series of chapbooks, a venture in avant-garde, limited edition publishing that reflected Baradinsky's liberal inclinations and his true love of contemporary letters. Each of the chapbooks, which were printed in runs of between 500 and 1000 copies, sold for a dollar. Baron's list included poetry, short fiction, and critical forays into painting, film-making, music, literature, and philosophy. A champion of free expression and innovation, Oscar found himself constantly attempting to make the all-important marriage between artists and the public in his dual role of bookseller and publisher. Outside the series, Alicat Book Shop Press published three titles: Philip Curcuruto's The A-B-C of Chiropractic Of, By, and About Henry Miller
