La Jornada Semanal, 19 de julio de 1998 Isabel Fraire H éctor García, artista y testigo Isabel Fraire nos entrega una valoración de la obra urgente y permanente (como todas las de los grandes artistas) de Héctor García, fotógrafo de nuestras gentes y calles, maestro de varias generaciones de fotógrafos. L a exposición de las fotografías de Héctor García que hoy se puede apreciar en el Museo de Arte Moderno resalta sobre todo el valor estético de su obra. Dividida en temas y dispuesta en orden cronológico, nos entrega un muestrario necesariamente incompleto. Para hacerle justicia habría que llenar toda la sala e incluir muchas de las fotografías tan memorables como perfectas que pertenecen al ámbito periodístico de su obra. Porque Héctor García, desde el principio, ha trabajado su arte como testigo, no de alguna visión interior, sino de lo que lo rodea. Ha sido sobre todo un dedo apuntando, como el dedo que señala la sangre en el pavimento en su dramática imagen del movimiento vallejista. En esta imagen la economía de elementos, su encuadre, dejando fuera el rostro de quien señala la sangre, es de una belleza que nos estremece, pero no nos deja pensar más que en lo que nos está diciendo: un momento de la historia de México. Como fotógrafo periodístico que corre tras la imagen del día, del momento, García ha acumulado cientos de miles de fotografías que nos dicen quiénes somos y en qué país vivimos desde que comenzó a trabajar en la década de los cuarenta, teniendo como compañeros y tutores a Efraín Huerta y José Revueltas. Sus maestros fueron Manuel çlvarez Bravo y Gabriel Figueroa, y es indudable su influencia en cuanto a los valores estéticos y dramáticos de su obra.

The third of six children, family has always been very important to me. Because of family, each Sunday my husband, son, and I make the long commute to Pasadena to attend the Salvation Army church, the same church I grew up in and which my entire family attends. My family has taught me much about love, about relationships, about commitmentcommitment to each other and to God. I attended UCLA for my entire academic career. A major highlight was my junior year abroad in Mexico City, where I came to love the Spanish language, Hispanic culture, Latin American literature, and the Latino people. VUELO DE VOCES Y LA PRESENCIA DE REVISTAS CULTURALES EN EL INTERIOR DE LA REPÚBLICA Héctor Maza Monterrey, N.L., 3 de marzo.- Era una revista tamaño medio, en una sola tinta y elaborada casi artesanalmente, de la que sólo se publicaron sus dos primeros números... tres años después dobló sus dimensiones, incluyó en sus páginas a escritores con trayectoria y trascendió en los núcleos culturales de diferentes estados del país y en la ciudad de México. Vuelo de voces despertó hacia una actividad literaria que incluso derivó en un Encuentro Nacional de Poetas en 1998. En 12 meses, la titular del proyecto, Sonia Silvia Rosas, editó siete números de Vuelo de voces: "el FONCA me permitió darme a conocer como editora, difundir la revista y las propuestas literarias, los objetivos de un equipo de trabajo y su propuesta editorial, y lo que hace Nuevo León en cuanto a poesía, pero es un compromiso muy fuerte. El apoyo ejerce además una disciplina en el trabajo de los creadores; te enseña a ser responsable, a administrarte, a ver cómo está el medio de los impresores y te impulsa". Al proyecto Vuelo de voces se le abrieron muchas puertas: "la llegaron a conocer muchas personas, tuvimos acceso a material gráfico y de creación, alcanzó un buen nivel en diferentes estados, cada vez pedían más revistas o los colaboradores escribían para decirles que habían visto la revista en una Casa de la Cultura o en la biblioteca pública, y los comentarios versaban sobre cómo podíamos mantener una revista mensual de las características de
