Who were the Most Popular Authors in 2000?
These were the 100 most popular authors, based on circulation figures, in 2000. The headliners are still childrens picture book authors, and mystery and other popular fiction authors. Barbara Kingsolver, Larry McMurtry, Ernest Heminway, Isabel Allende and Shakespeare are the (highest circulating) 'literary' authors to appear in the list. news freetime travel homezone ... talk a little about... Dick was the business editor for 13 years and was a business columnist for 15 years. In 1998 he retired and began writing his freelance column on small business his favorite subject.
Dick Youngblood's columns about small business appear in the Business section on Sundays. Dick Youngblood: Oat on the cutting edge Dick Youngblood, Star Tribune Published November 17, 2002 John (Buck) MacDonald is a compulsive entrepreneur whose focus on natural foods inspired him to start an organic grocery in Dinkytown, an organic deli in Rochester and a frozen organic soup business in Minneapolis. With those and other businesses long since sold or folded, he's laboring now to raise capital for an organic fast-food restaurant he wants to open in suburban St. Paul. All of which might help explain why the man was cooking oat flour in a pot of water on his kitchen stove back in the late 1980s, on the way to starting a Minneapolis company called American Oats Inc. MacDonald, it seems, had the peculiar notion that he could create a low-fat, no-cholesterol, nondairy ice cream substitute for lactose-intolerant folks and the growing legions of consumers interested in a natural frozen dessert with no sugar added. "I remembered from one of my college courses that if you apply a culture to a complex starch such as oats, mix it with water and heat it for about 24 hours, the starch converts to glucose," said MacDonald, 55.
