    Introduction
    A Word of Peace
On 15 August 1945, Japanese war aggressors withdrew from Southeast Asia upon their defeat, ending one of the most devastating periods in the history of mankind. Now, 55 years later, we commemorate the anniversary of the end of the war and celebrate a period of peace. As with any other historical event, with the passage of time, people may view what happened 60 years ago in a different light. A Westerner's interpretation of the war which took place in this part of the world could differ from a local's account. Similarly, what was written about the war half a century ago may not be the same as what is being written down. Throughout the war in this part of the world, people put up with untold sufferings as they attempted to preserve their self-dignity and bring about peace. From all accounts, the price of peace did not come cheap and easy. Perhaps this is why we have been fighting so hard to maintain a state of peace these 55 years. History is like the brocade pouch the wise man carries with him. Hopefully, we can find the right path by digging deeper into this bag. May all of us continue to work together for the honourable cause of maintaining WORLD PEACE

Survivors tell a new generation about Anne Frank
    'She was attractive and opinionated'
    April 20, 1997
Web posted at: 11:39 p.m. EDT (0339 GMT) From Correspondent Cynthia Tornquist NEW BRUNSWICK, New Jersey (CNN) In 1942 Anne Frank stood up Ed Silverberg for a date. "I had an appointment to see her in the afternoon," Silverberg says. "I rang the doorbell and the door was not answered." Silverberg was the last to see Anne Frank publicly before she and her family went into hiding from the Nazis. "The Diary of Anne Frank" Anne's private writings during the two years she and her family hid from the Nazis was published in 1947. The diary and the hope and fear expressed by the young girl has become one of the war's most vivid stories. Silverberg kept his friendship with Anne a secret for 50 years until recently, when he agreed to participate in a film project in which witnesses to the war, especially those who knew Anne, share their memories. "And Then They Came for Me" is a mixed-media spin-off of "The Diary of Anne Frank." The production has toured schools throughout New Jersey and puts a human face on an event that might otherwise be seen by students as just another chapter in their history books. "I think what theater can do very uniquely is to make it personal, immediate and to find the heart of that story," says director Susan Kerner.

    THE INSPIRATION OF ANNE FRANK
Reprinted from THE NEW TIMES, September, 1989
    by Randy Berkman, Ph.D.
When a rude young man asked Supreme Court Justice Frankfurter to give a reason that humanity would be worth saving, he replied "I have read Anne Frank's Diary." When the play based on the Diary was shown to German audiences in the '50's, waves of guilt and shame were released. For the first time, the German people began to confront the events of World War II. One West German student wrote: "I am not putting it properly when I say that I was shaken by the book. No, it goes deeper than that. Many books have shaken me up which I later managed to forget. But this diary has moved me to the depths and left a permament impression. It has awakened an ideal within me that must shape whatever I do in the future." 1
A young woman from the Philippines wrote "I first read Anne's diary when I was 15. I am now 19 and of all the books in the world I cherish her diary most. Although she is not a philosopher, a Nobel prize winner, or a great contemporary thinker, she has influenced me as no one else could. I feel strongly that the diary has become a part of me. It has made me aware of myself. I now realize my shortcomings, my needs, my longings. I am not afraid anymore. And, like Anne, I want to do things with great force, great determination."
Many people already know the story of Anne Frank's 25 months in hiding in an Amsterdam "secret annexe" with her mother, father, sister, and four other Jews fleeing Nazi persecution; and that she died of typhus in the German concentration camp at Bergen-Belsen in 1945, three months before her 16th birthday.

Welcome to my Anne Frank Website!
This is my personal tribute to a wonderful young girl who was taken away from our world too soon. In 1945, Anne Frank died of typhus in the concentration camp Bergen-Belsen. She was only 15 years old. Yet she left us a legacy: While she was hiding away from the Nazis in a secret annexe in Amsterdam for more than two years, she wrote her wonderful diary, a treasure full of wisdom from a young girl's heart, a gift for generations to come. It was first published in The Netherlands in 1947, two years after Anne's frightful death.
Today, "Anne Frank - The Diary of a Young Girl" is the most widely read non-fiction book after the Bible. (six million) innocent lives were senselessly wiped out in the most heinous crime against human dignity, the crime we now refer to as "The Holocaust" or "The persecution of the Jews". Anne Frank was only one of them. We can not undo the horrors of the past - yet we must remember . And still, we must learn . Hatred and persecution are still present nowadays - the frightful terrorist attacks of September 11th 2001 have proven it once more. Let's finally realize that we all live on the same planet under the same sky, we're all different, we're all unique, yet we have one thing in common - we all belong to the human race. We all have the right to live and to exist, and life is only a short journey. We arrive on earth with no possessions at all, and we can take nothing with us when we leave. Let us not waste our short walk on eath with hatred and envy, then.
