General Information about the Frost Place
Donald Hall, one of New Hampshire's great poets, has said of the Frost Place, "There is no other poetic institution in the United States that feels more consecrated to the poem itself."
A recent participant wrote, "The faculty were, without exception, well-informed, helpful, generous of time and spirit."
The Frost Place in northern New Hampshire, scenically located between the Connecticut River at the foot of the White Mountains, was the full-time and then summer home of Robert Frost and his family from 1915 till 1920, following their return from England.
The Frost Place is open to visitors from Memorial Day through June 30, selected afternoons; and from July 1st through Columbus Day Weekend, every afternoon, except Tuesdays, from 1-5 PM. Admission:
Adults $3.00, Senior Citizens $2.00, Children 6-12 $1.25, and Children under 6 are admitted free. Pine Valley
Poems by Robert Frost
Acquainted with the Night I have been one acquainted with the night.
I have walked out in rainand back in rain.
I have outwalked the furthest city light. I have looked down the saddest city lane.
I have passed by the watchman on his beat
And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain. I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
When far away an interrupted cry
    Came over houses from another street, But not to calle me back or say good-by;
And further still at an unearthly height
One luminary clock against the sky Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
I have been one acquainted with the night.
Canis Major The great Overdog, That heavenly beast With a star in one eye, Gives a leap in the east. He dances upright All the way to the west And never once drops On his forefeet to rest. I'm a poor underdog, But tonight I will bark With the great Overdog That romps through the dark. Dust of Snow The way a crow Shook down on me A dusting of snow From a hemlock tree Has given my heart A change of mood And saved some part Of a day I had rued.

MENDING WALL Robert Frost Something there is that doesn't love a wall, That sends the frozen-ground-swell under it, And spills the upper boulders in the sun, And makes gaps even two can pass abreast. The work of hunters is another thing: I have come after them and made repair Where they have left not one stone on a stone, But they would have the rabbit out of hiding, To please the yelping dogs. The gaps I mean, No one has seen them made or heard them made, But at spring mending-time we find them there. I let my neighbor know beyond the hill; And on a day we meet to walk the line And set the wall between us once again.

North of Boston Robert Frost (1874-1963)
American poet who was much admired for his depictions of the rural life of New England, his command of American colloquial speech, and his realistic verse portraying ordinary people in everyday situations.
Frost's father, William Prescott Frost, Jr., was a journalist with ambitions of establishing a career in California, and in 1873 he and his wife moved to San Francisco. Her husband's untimely death from tuberculosis in 1885 prompted Isabelle Moodie Frost to take her two children, Robert and Jeanie, to Lawrence, Mass., where they were taken in by the children's paternal grandparents. While their mother taught at a variety of schools in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, Robert and Jeanie grew up in Lawrence, and Robert graduated from high school in 1892. A top student in his class, he shared valedictorian honours with Elinor White, with whom he had already fallen in love.

She was the youngest of three sistersAnna, Lise, and Kaethewho lived in Bielefeld. In 1938, Karen and Lise came to England on a Children's Transporta scheme, organised from overseas, to get Jewish children out of Germany. Karen effectively was on her own in England from 1939 when Lise went on to Palestine. (Although Anna arrived in England the same year, she went her own way.) Their parents were murdered by the Nazis. Karen married Val Tripp in 1948. They had four children. Their daughter Stella was born in 1954. The family emigrated to Israel at the end of 1968. In 1971 Stella returned to England to go to art collegea parallel to Karen leaving her own parents. The poem 'Stella Remembered' was written in 1972 and was first published in 'My Daughters, My Sisters, and other Poems (1975). The following is a quote from Karen which appears on the dust-jacket: '...(the poems) were written during the past two years abroadwhich in this context matters only insofar as, for me, it meant a separation from Stella, my third child and the one closest to me.
