Kahlil Gibran 1883-1931
Poet, philosopher, and artist, was born in Lebanon, a land that has produced many prophets. The millions of Arabic-speaking people familiar with his writings in that language consider him the genius of his age. But he was a man whose fame and influence spread far beyond the Near East. His poetry has been translated into more than twenty languages. His drawings and paintings have been exhibited in the great capitals of the world and compared by Auguste Rodin to the work of William Blake. In the United States, which he made his home during the last twenty years of his life, he began to write in English. The Prophet and his other books of poetry, illustrated with his mystical drawings, are known and loved by innemerable Americans who find in them an expression of the deepest impulses of man's heart and mind.

Al Khazneh, the treasure
I would be ignorant as the dawn
That has looked down
On that old queen measuring a town
With the pin of a brooch,
Or on the withered men that saw
From their pedantic Babylon
The careless planets in their courses,
The stars fade out where the moon comes,
And took their tablets and did sums;
I would be ignorant as the dawn That merely stood, rocking the glittering coach Above the cloudy shoulders of the horses; I would be - for no knowledge is worth a straw - Ignorant and wanton as the dawn.
The Dawn William Butler Yeats
"Petra is the most beautiful place of the earth. Not for its ruins, but for the colors of its rocks, all red and black with green and blue strips, just small wrinklings, and for the forms of its stones and steeples, and for its fantastic gorge , where the spring water flows and it's so narrow that just a camel pass through. I have read an endless series of descriptions about Petra, but none of them is able to give an idea, and I'm not sure to succed in it. Then you won't never know Petra, unless you go there".
