What the critics said He is as practical and dispassionate in his attitude to subject matter as to poetic form: both are to be extended in the interests of furthering the reach of his poetry, and if private experience is to be drawn on, it does not deserve any more excitable treatment than other topics. He, none the less, speaks at length about his personbal life in the interview, bringing a stoic grace to his account of the circumstances and aftermath of the death of his wife, the poet Jane Kenyon. 'Tidying', the revealingly titled sample lyric, offers a characteristically exact meditation on that aftermath. Patrick Crotty

Status in 1973: Missing in Action
Category: Aircraft/Vehicle/Ground: HH-3 "Jolly Green Giant" Other Personnel In Incident: Patrick H. Wood, Richard A. Kibbey and Lucius L. Heiskell (missing); Dwayne Hackney (rescued) REMARKS: SYNOPSIS: The first HH3E Jolly Green Giant helicopters specifically outfitted for search and rescue arrived in Vietnam in the fall of 1965. By the beginning of 1967 there were 50 Aerospace Search and Recovery Squadron (ARRS) rescue aircraft in five squadrons in Southeast Asia. Later models of the HH3 were equipped with aerial refueling capability that gave them the range necessary to fly missions deep into North Vietnam. On 6 February 1967, Major Patrick H. Wood, pilot; Capt. Richard A. Kibbey, co-pilot; then SSgt. Donald J. Hall, flight mechanic; and A2C Dwayne Hackney, pararescueman (PJ); comprised the crew of the lead HH-3E rescue helicopter (tail #65-12779), call sign "Jolly Green 05." The call sign of the number two helicopter in the flight was "Jolly Green 36." They were participating in a search and rescue (SAR) mission for a downed Air Force pilot, Capt. Lucius L. Heiskell. Capt. Heiskell was the pilot of an O-1F aircraft, call sign "Nail 65," that was the lead aircraft in a flight of two conducting a FAC mission for strike aircraft operating in extreme western North Vietnam. His wingman was Capt. Gerald Dickey. The mission identifier was Steel Tiger, Cricket Area 4," a region that included the portion of North Vietnam bordering Laos that included the Mu Gia Pass, one of the two primary gateways into the infamous Ho Chi Minh Trail via Route 15. Between 17 April 1965 and 31 December 1971, 43 American airmen were lost and listed as POW/MIAs in a 33.3-mile square window of the world known as the Mu Gia Pass.
