Dr. Clive Seligman
President
Society for Academic Freedom and Scholarship
1673 Richmond Street, #344
London, Ontario N8G 2N3 Dear Dr. Seligman, The President of the University has asked me to reply to your letter to her and me of May 2. The substance of your letter appeared in the National Post some time ago, and I wrote a reply which was also published in the National Post. In this letter, I am essentially repeating (with minor embellishments) the essence of the letter to the National Post. I fully agree with your Society that the best defence to offensive speech is more speech, allowing readers to form their own views of the validity of each point of view. However, in a university with a diverse student body, members of religious and racial minorites are entitled to be treated with respect. That is why York University requires its students to refrain from speech that amounts to harassment or discrimination contrary to the principles of the Ontario Human Rights Code. This may be the point at which your Society and the University differ, and of course the issue is a difficult one, but you will know that many public and private institutions have adopted such policies to make sure that behaviour (including speech) in the workplace or educational setting is comatible with the Human Rights Code. In the case of the anti-Islamic article that appeared in the Osgoode Hall Law School’s student newspaper, a student has filed a complaint that the article offended the York University standards of conduct. Under the rules, Osgoode’s Associate Dean is obliged to investigate the complaint, and, if she believes that it is one to which the University’s regulations apply, to refer it to a university body for an informal resolution or a formal determination. The Associate Dean is now conducting that investigation. Neither I nor the President of the University have any control or influence over the proceedings, but I am confident that a result will be reached that is properly respectful of freedom of speech and is fair to both sides.

    58. Lakestay-English Lakes-Wasdale Murder
Within hours Cumbria police were knocking at the door of peter hogg’s £90,000 home in Surrey. But fate was sometimes smiling on peter hogg.
    http://www.lakestay.co.uk/was.htm
WASDALE'S LADY IN THE LAKE MYSTERY
The brooding Screes were the only witness as the corpse that became known as the Lady of the Lake was slid into the midnight black waters of Wastwater. It was October in 1976. It would be eight years before the corpse re-emerged as amateur divers found what appeared to be a puzzling carpet bag tied to a concrete slab. The divers had half expected to find the remains of missing French hillwalker, Veronique Marre, but her body was in fact found some years later on the sharp crags that looked down on the lake.
He had worked as the cool headed pilot of 757 jets for Air Europe, while Margaret had been an air hostess. But their marriage had come to a stormy end and she had been involved in a three year relationship with banker, Graham Ryan, before a violent argument culminated in Peter Hogg strangling his wife. Had fate had been kinder to Peter Hogg, 56, Wastwater lake would probably have kept his dark secret forever.
Killer tried at the Old Bailey
    Wastwater's French Connection
It was a slightly misty August morning and the Wasdale Youth Hostel had its usual rush of fellwalkers and visitors packing up and setting off after breakfast. Among those leaving was a well built 21 year old French girl, Veronique Mireille Marre. She had only passable knowledge of English, but years of walking in the French Alps had made her well able to cope with a walking tour in the Lake District.

    James Hogg Collection
This collection of books and manuscripts was gifted to the University of Otago Library by the Gilkison family, who are related to James Hogg (1770-1835), the Ettrick poet. The collection is divided up into three: manuscripts works by Hogg , and works by others Although small in number, the manuscripts provide a small window in which to peer through at Hogg and his world. The letters from John G. Lockhart, Thomas Pringle, Anna Maria Hall, and Sir Walter Scott make interesting reading. As expected in such collections, there are later manuscripts that offer further details on Hogg and the family links. Apart from the remains of the Chaldee manuscript, which is registered as a de Beer manuscript, they were all owned by the Gilkison family.
Manuscripts Ms. letters to or about James Hogg. between 1820 and 1833. 8 sheets in an envelope.

AppleScript is in fact one language that conforms to the Open Scripting Architecture (OSA) designed by Apple. This is a set of APIs that embody the mechanisms for communicating with applications (the "side door"). Any language can be plugged into this, and a number of alternative OSA scripting languages exist. I personally think AppleScript is the closest to something that allows people to express what they want to do in terms they are most familiar with. I'd love to see something even more natural, but natural language communication with computers has stalled somewhat since the early enthusiasm for AI. Don't give up yet. Sometimes describing the problem to someone else makes it more clear in your own head, even if the listener has no idea what you're talking about. If you work too much on your own then you risk not being able to see the wood for the trees.
