The Dukes of Hazzard (1979-85) had a great theme song, good looking stars, goofy villains and, of course, lots of car stunts. In this episode, the boys annoy Boss Hogg by demanding that he give Daisy a raise in her waitressing job at his bar. He fires her. However, Sheriff Byrd has received an equal opportunity edict and must hire a female deputy. In the meantime, the intrepid Deputy Enos spots the pair of good-looking armed robbers, Floyd Baker and Molly Harmon, driving out of town and alerts his new boss, Sheriff Byrd. When Floyd sees the Sheriff following, he shoots at the patrol car putting a bullet in the windshield. That makes the sheriff so mad, he runs them off the road. He improbably puts them under arrest and gets them to jail without having them get away.

RESPONSE TO SAFS BY DEAN peter W. hogg. May 11, 2001. Dear Dr. Seligman,. Yourssincerely,. peter W. hogg, Dean. cc Dr. Lorna Marsden, President.
    http://www.niagara.com/~safs/september2001/safs4.html
RESPONSE TO SAFS BY DEAN PETER W. HOGG May 11, 2001 Dear Dr. Seligman, The President of the University has asked me to reply to your letter to her and me of May 2. The substance of your letter appeared in the National Post some time ago, and I wrote a reply which was also published in the National Post . In this letter, I am essentially repeating (with minor embellishments) the essence of the letter to the National Post I fully agree with your Society that the best defence to offensive speech is more speech, allowing readers to form their own views of the validity of each point of view. However, in a university with a diverse student body, members of religious and racial minorities are entitled to be treated with respect. That is why York University requires its students to refrain from speech that amounts to harassment or discrimination contrary to the principles of the Ontario Human Rights Code. This may be the point at which your Society and the University differ, and of course the issue is a difficult one, but you will know that many public and private institutions have adopted such policies to make sure that behaviour (including speech) in the workplace or educational setting is compatible with the Human Rights Code. In the case of the anti-Islamic article that appeared in the Osgoode Hall Law School’s student newspaper, a student has filed a complaint that the article offended the York University standards of conduct. Under the rules, Osgoode’s Associate Dean is obliged to investigate the complaint, and, if she believes that it is one to which the University’s regulations apply, to refer it to a university body for an informal resolution or a formal determination. The Associate Dean is now conducting that investigation. Neither I nor the President of the University have any control or influence over the proceedings, but I am confident that a result will be reached that is properly respectful of freedom of speech and is fair to both sides.

MANCHES ADVISE ON SALE OF HOGG ROBINSON'S INSURANCE BUSINESSES
2nd July 2001 The Oxford office of business lawyers Manches acted for corporate and employee services specialist Hogg Robinson plc on the recent sale of two of its insurance divisions to Towergate.
Following Hogg Robinson's management buy-out in June 2000, the sale of the company's insurance divisions represents the latest step in Hogg Robinson's strategy to focus on specialist outsourcing and consultancy services to the corporate sector.
The deal, which involved Wilsons Hogg Robinson - a leading armed forces insurance specialist-and Quotecheck-a telephone and extranet based civilian insurance intermediary - was led by Peter Angel, corporate partner at Manches in Oxford.
Under the terms of the sale, Towergate will acquire William Hogg Robinson's and Quotecheck's entire operations including its client bases and 45 staff.
Commented Kevin Ruffles, Business Services Director of Hogg Robinson:
"Following our Management buy-out we have continued to review all areas of our business to determine those that best fit with our core proposition and can best deliver value to our corporate clients."
