(Phyllis Dorothy James White, Baroness James of Holland Park), Cover Her Face, was published in 1962. It introduced readers to her most famous character, Scotland Yard's poet-detective Adam Dalgliesh, who appears in most of her subsequent books. Her novels are in the tradition of English detective fiction but go beyond the stereotypical with their subtly realistic characterizations, complex motivations, and sophisticated plots. Her works include An Unsuitable Job for a Woman (1972), in which her female sleuth Cordelia Gray first appears, Death of an Expert Witness The Skull Beneath the Skin Devices and Desires (1989), and A Certain Justice (1997). Many of her novels have been adapted for television. James also won critical and popular acclaim with her psychologically insightful and best-selling non-detective novel Innocent Blood See study by N. Siebenheller (1981).

26. MELT - Artist Information
Biography and CD ordering for this jazz musician.
http://www.melt2000.com/artists/mcmillan_intro.html
An introduction to James McMillan
"He has played with Sade and Everything But The Girl it's given him a wide taste in music and he neatly mixes standards." Birmingham Post Dec '91 "You may not know the name, but you'll certainly know the horn. This session trumpet player has tootled for everybody from Sade to Paul Weller, with James Brown and the Ragga Twins along the way...all very pleasant in a session muso sort of a way..." Maxim Sept '98 Trumpeter James McMillan is one of the most accomplished jazz men of his generation, in constant demand not only for his expertise with a horn, but increasingly as a producer and arranger of pop hits. He also has his own label, Quiet Money. In this context, his debut for M.E.L.T.2000 is something of an indulgence. 'Ballads'(BW109) is a contemporary 90's homage to the classic ballads albums of the 50's and 60's; it's the kind of record they don't make any more.

“His soul swooned slowly as he hear the snow falling faintly through the universe and faintly falling through the universe and faintly falling, like the descent of their last end, upon all the living and the dead. - James Joyce “The Dead” Every runner has a story. But in this race, the spectators are the ones with the stories. Along each mile of Sunday’s 19th edition of the James Joyce Ramble, readings from six Joyce works (“Finnegans Wake,” “Ulysses,” “A Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man,” “ Exiles,” “Dubliners,” and “The Dead” ) will be performed by actors. The race begins at the Endicott Estate on East Street in Dedham at 11:00 a.m.

  • Death of an Expert Witness
"In 'Death of an Expert Witness,' [James] does for a forensic science laboratory in East Anglia what [Dorothy] Sayers did for Oxbridge and [Ngaio] Marsh managed for the London theater world. She fairly wallows in motives technicalities, eccentricities, venom and defeat."
  • The Skull Beneath the Skin
"'The Skull Beneath the Skin' is perhaps an acknowledgment that [James] had reached too far, a deliberate step back in the direction of orthodoxy. It is a disappointment to the extent that the criminal results don't flow as they should from the stated motives, but this is still an absorbing story, paced and written with fine calculation, a work quite beyond the scope of more than a very few of her contemporaries."
  • A Taste for Death
"P. D. James's latest book is . . . graced by one of the most felicitous prose styles I know. Ms. James is simply a wonderful writer."

East of Eden, Giant The Original Rebel Acting Career James Dean's acting career is best described as brief, but brilliant. Jimmy stared in 3 movies, Rebel Without A Cause, East of Eden, and Giant. He is known for his ability to portray emotions, and considered a Icon for youth of his generation and many to fallow. Passion for speed - Along with being a great actor, dean was a exceptional race car driver, and a very experienced motorcycle rider. Before the filming of giant, he had won 2 out of the 3 races he entered. This was a very dangerous sport at the time. The cars were mostly topless, very light and they didn't have roll bars. The infamous car Jim died in was a Porsche Spyder. Very few of these were made, and I doubt that any of the originals are still in existence. Jim had a shop paint 130 on the hood, and had "the little bastard" painted on the back. Growing up in a small town - James Byron Dean was born February 8th 1931 in Marion Indiana. He lived in Indiana for until he was 6, then moved to California. When Dean's mother died of cancer 5 years later he moved back to Fairmount Indiana. He was just like any country boy and a very good athlete, except for his interest in the arts. He became very active in high school plays and his love for acting, and his quest had begun. "Rebel Without A Cause ".
