THE POPULISTS TITUS ANDRONICUS SESQUILICUS Class : Plebian Tribe : Falerna Age Past and Present Offices
  • 60 BC: no office
  • 59 BC: Plebian Tribune (President of the College)
  • 58 BC: Plebian Tribune (President of the College)
Family Background : A plebian from a family of wine merchants the outspoken and eloquent Titus Andronicus Sesquilicus is the leading Plebian Tribune, being elected President of the College. Married to the aristocratic, but homely Licinia, daughter of current consul Publius Licinius Crassus. No children as yet. Titus has one younger brother Quintus and an uncle Caecilius. Family History : The Andronicus family have been well-to-do knights for as long as anyone can remember. The traditional family home was Spoletium and it was near here that the brothers Marcus (Titus' father) and Caecilius established a thriving vineyard and winery selling boutique wines for consumption in Rome. Young Titus was groomed to follow in his father's footsteps but growing realisation of the injustices wrought by absentee senatorial landlords fired him with a desire to enter politics. When his father died of a stroke, Titus was a rich man and he set out for Rome to make his name in the law courts. He quickly earnt a reputation for dogged persistance (hence his cognomen) and he decided to run for plebian tribune. General Description : A tall but very thin, almost emaciated man Titus appears drawn almost to the point of ill-health, though his classical Roman features remain attractive. Nevertheless his eyes burn with the intensity of his obsession to champion the poor, sniff out corruption and to make Rome a better place.
