I did not pal around with them, so I don't have too much too share. I suppose I could do a superficial treatment with a few ancecdotes. I should get my brother Danny (Elevators bassist) to start talking about it. This might take a while. The following is a list of anecdotes which could be expanded upon:
    • Stacy Sutherland and either the bass player or the drummer (to be confirmed) quit Max and the Lingsman to start a new band (the Elevators). I believe I may have mentioned this when I wrote about the secret origin of the original Max and The Laughing Kind.
    • Roky Erickson asleep on a couch with his head in an ashtray at the Goldstar Studios in Houston Texas. When he wakes up, he is speechless, but he wants to show me something. He opens his wallet and pulls out a picture of Elvis. His expression says "WOW".
    • Love Street light show and circus, San Antonio, Texas. Roky will not take the stage because he fears that people will notice the third eye on his forehead. He sneaks onto the stage by duckwalking behind the amplifiers, with his hand covering his forehead.

Robert Lowell: Biographical Note Lowell graduated summa cum laude in Classics from Kenyon in 1940. He spent the next year studying with Cleanth Brooks and Robert Penn Warren at Louisiana State University. Before departing for Louisiana, Lowell married Jean Stafford, a writer of short stories and novels. 1940 also saw Lowell's conversion to Roman Catholicism, a repudiation of his ancestors' New England Protestantism as well as a dedication to what seemed to him the more authentic faith of the Roman Church. After a year at Louisiana State, Lowell and Stafford moved to Monteagle, Tennessee, where they shared a house with Allen Tate and his wife, the writer Caroline Gordon. When the Second World War began in 1941, Lowell had volunteered for military service. His poor eyesight led to his initial rejection from armed service. In 1943, however, Lowell received a conscription notice from the United States military. Shocked and dismayed by the Allied firebombing of civilians in German cities like Dresden, he declared himself at this time a conscientious objector. He served for several months in jail (his experiences form the basis of "Memories of West Street and Lepke"), and finished his sentence performing community service in Connecticut. During these months, he finished and published his first book, Land of Unlikeness . During the next year he revised the book and published the new version as Lord Weary's Castle in 1946. This book found a warm critical reception, sparked in part by Jarrell's appreciative review in

    Lowell, Robert
A stylistic innovator and a voice of conscience, Robert Lowell strongly influenced American poetry and culture. His poetry ranged from the complex verbal structures and the quest for redemption that mark his early poetry through the personal memory and secularized despair of his landmark volume, Life Studies (1959), to the later emphasis on political and historical issues and finally a concern with aging and death. A pacifist with violent tendencies, Lowell involved himself in a number of political controversies, most notably two with U.S. Presidents. In the 1940s he criticized President Franklin D. Roosevelt for the conduct of World War II, and in the 1960s he rebuked President Lyndon B. Johnson for initiating the Vietnam War. Lowell changed American poetry by expanding its capacity to address both one's personal life and the public sphere. Through his powerful texts and his political interventions, he helped place poetry at the center of American and international culture. Lowell was born in Boston, the only child of Robert Traill Spence Lowell IV and Charlotte Winslow Lowell. Among his ancestors were Puritan patriarchs Edward Winslow and Josiah Winslow, poets James Russell Lowell and Amy Lowell, astronomer Percival Lowell, and Harvard president Abbott Lawrence Lowell. Despite these illustrious antecedents, Lowell grew up in a family torn between high social aspirations and problematic financial realities, destabilized by his parents' endless and profound conflicts. Moreover, the antecedents themselves were blemished: Josiah Winslow committed brutal acts against Native Americans, James Russell Lowell was a poet "pedestalled for oblivion" (Meyers, 1988), Percival Lowell discovered nonexistent canals on Mars, and Abbott Lawrence Lowell helped send the possibly innocent Sacco and Vanzetti to their deaths. Lowell grew up notably ambivalent about both family and history, the two topics that would eventually drive his poetic career.
