Probably the greatest English dramatist before Shakespeare, Marlowe was educated at Cambridge and he went to London in 1587, where he became an actor and dramatist for the Lord Admiral's Company. His most important plays are the two parts of Tamburlaine the Great (c. 1587), Dr. Faustus (c. 1588), The Jew of Malta (c. 1589), and Edward II (c. 1592). Marlowe's dramas have heroic themes, usually centering on a great personality who is destroyed by his own passion and ambition. Although filled with violence, brutality, passion, and bloodshed, Marlowe's plays are never merely sensational. The poetic beauty and dignity of his language raise them to the level of high art. Most authorities detect influences of his work in the Shakespeare canon, notably in Titus Andronicus and King Henry VI.

The Story
that the
Sonnets Tell
by
A.D.Wraight
This book boldly asks the question:
Why is it that SHAKESPEARE'S SONNETS, though widely acknowledged as his autobiographical writings do not fit a single piece of evidence in the life of William Shakespeare of Stratford-upon-Avon?
This is the 'Riddle of the Sonnets' that has tantalised scholars, poets and editors of the Sonnets . A wide consensus of opinion nevertheless maintains that these beautiful poems are autobiographical and refer to real events and real persons in Shakespeare's life.
A totally new approach to the Sonnets has achieved a remarkable break-through to resolve this mystery. These moving autobiographical poems are themselves the key which has opened the door, and we at last know why that door was kept locked for so long.
The book is dedicated to the memory of the late Leslie Hotson, whose brilliant research forms the basis of much of that the author has developed through her wide research and insight into this complex historical period. This is a revolutionary book that will alter our concept of Shakespeare for ever! At last we come to know this genius as a courageous and credible man. A fascinating historical detective story that makes compelling reading.

HAMLET: A TRAGEDY OF ERRORS OR THE TRAGICAL FATE OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE?
by
Alfred Barkov
In Russian The contents
of the paper
William Shakespeare W hen the text of
Christopher Marlowe Hamlet is read attentively, and no details are disregarded, it becomes clear that William Shakespeare included in it something quite different from what has been traditionally believed. If I state that prince Hamlet was not a son to king Hamlet, or that pregnant Ophelia was drowned by prince Hamlet's half-brother, etc., it's very likely I would be diagnosed as mad. And yet, the facts Shakespeare included in the text suggest that the plot of Hamlet has been perceived erroneously. In the text of Hamlet , there exist multiple contradictions and discrepancies which cannot be explained within the traditional interpretation. Even the age of the hero is not known for sure: the Hamlet of the Act I is around twenty while the Hamlet of the Act V is thirty years of age.

Kimberly Anderson on Christopher Marlowe
*** My original plan was to have three topics pertaining to Christopher Marlowe: secret service, his alleged homosexuality, and the speculations surrounding his contribution to Shakespeare's work. Once I got started, I realized that 500 words isn't much and so I narrowed it down to his connection to the secret service and the different theories regarding his death. I have a picture of C. Marlowe that I can download onto disc and I was wondering if I could create a timeline for a second "graphic."
Christopher Marlowe... secret agent?
Christopher Marlowe attained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Cambridge in 1587. Even though Marlowe was against Christianity, it was rumored that he "turned Catholic" and went to study with a seminary priest in Rheims after he graduated. This proved to be untrue, as Marlowe was persuing government service by order of the Queen. This was the first incident that led to the knowledge that Marlowe worked as a secret agent. Marlowe, Christopher
(baptized Feb. 26, 1564, Canterbury, Kent, Eng.d. May 30, 1593, Deptford, near London), Elizabethan poet and Shakespeare's most important predecessor in English drama, who is noted especially for his establishment of dramatic blank verse.
Early years
Marlowe was the second child and eldest son of John Marlowe, a Canterbury shoemaker. Nothing is known of his first schooling, but on Jan. 14, 1579, he entered the King's School, Canterbury, as a scholar. A year later he went to Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. Obtaining his bachelor of arts degree in 1584, he continued in residence at Cambridgewhich may imply that he was intending to take Anglican orders. In 1587, however, the university hesitated about granting him the master's degree; its doubts (arising from his frequent absences from the university) were apparently set at rest when the Privy Council sent a letter declaring that he had been employed "on matters touching the benefit of his country"apparently in Elizabeth I's secret service.
Last years and literary career.

CHRISTOPHER MARLOWE
By Kevin L Nenstiel Uncovering the truth in the life of playwright and poet Christopher Marlowe is no small feat. Besides the poor record keeping of his era and the low esteem in which playwrights were held, the murkiness of his life is further compounded by slanders and disinformation advertised in the wake of his passing by Puritan detractors, rivals, and ideological opponents. However, because his name is usually considered second only to that of William Shakespeare in English drama, it is only natural to want to examine the circumstances that contributed to the formation of his classic literature. Christopher Marlowe was born in Canterbury on 6 February 1564, only a few months before William Shakespeare. He came from a similar tradesman’s background – where Shakespeare’s father was a wheelwright, Marlowe’s father was a tanner. There were also similar histories of the writers’ mothers marrying below theirstation. Shakespeare’s mother, Mary Arden, was a gentleman’s daughter; likewise, Katherine Arthur, probably a clergyman’s daughter, married John Marlowe despite his being of the working class (Bakeless 13).
