The number of readers who know Marlowe's life and works is no doubt small, but for that audience, one of the real pleasures of these fictions is watching how the authors interpret events from Marlowe's life or incorporate allusions to his works. Unfortunately, this is perhaps the sole pleasure provided by Liam Maguire's Icarus Flying Judith Cook's The Slicing Edge of Death Edward II is described as a deliberately offensive play, filled with sodomy, which was written primarily to teach Henslowe a lesson for suggesting that Marlowe write a play that would take advantage of the current fashion for plays about kings.
