But we are talking about steamships, who were built originally for Austria and -forced by history- have served many masters. By the initiative of Karl Schmid from Unterrohrbach and Franz Scheriau from Leoben, they are back in Austria since 1 july. Two ships like from an adventure roman: the "Pascal" and the "Mistral" are brought back to Austria. The history of the creation and lives of the ships remember of an adventure roman. The 26.5 meter long and 145 tons heavy "Mistral" was built in 1912 for Austria in a Dutch yard. It was payed by means of an equivalent of steel. An historical fact is that the emperor Franz Joseph travelled the Donau countrys incognito on this ship. The "noble Salon", that often can be found on this type of ships, still remembers of this fact. The in 1907 built "Pascal" is a little smaller and served till the end of the first worldwar as a tug on the Donau. In 1918 the roads of these two boats crossed in Rumenia. They were captured as war spoils by France and were active at the "SFND" company. This company was in reality a secret service who served as intelligence serviceon the Donau between the two wars.

FREDERIC MISTRAL BIOGRAPHIE Accueil Retour 1830 - Naissance , le 8 septembre de Frédéric Mistral au mas du Juge où habitent ses parents. Son père est propriétaire terrien. Etudes au pensionnat de l'abbaye saint-Michel de Frigolet au-dessus de Tarascon. 1847 - Mistral passe son baccalauréat à Nimes. 1848 - Mistral commence ses études de droit à Aix en Provence. 1852 - Décès du père de Mistral qui vient s'installer à Maillane avec sa mère, dans la maison du Lézard. 1854 - Le 21 mai, sept écrivains provençaux fondent le félibrige pour défendre la langue provençale. Mistral en prend la tête. 1859 - Mistral monte à Paris présenter ses écrits à Lamartine. A la suite de cette visite, Mistral publie "Mireille" qui le révèle au grand public. 1866 - Mistral écrit "Calendal", poème de la Provence héroique. 1875 - Mistral écrit "Les iles d'or",puis le "Trésor du félibrige"(1878) , "Nerto" (1884), "La reine Jeanne" (1890) , "Le poème du Rhone" (1897).

Pour compléter ce programme, Mistral fonde, à Arles, le premier musée régional, le Museon Arlaten. C'est à 21 ans que Frédéric Mistral entreprend la rédaction de "Mirèio", son chef d'œuvre. C'est au collège d'Avignon qu'il prend conscience de la cassure qui sépare le monde rural profondément provençal, de celui très francisé de la ville. Pourtant, ce sont les influences dont il s'enrichit à la ville qui vont déterminer ses engagements futurs dans la défense des valeurs de la République et de la langue provençale. Après des études de droit à Aix-en-Provence, il choisit de devenir écrivain, ce que lui permettent l'aisance matérielle de sa famille et la compréhension de son père. Il veut restaurer "la langue naturelle et historique du pays, à laquelle les écoles font toutes une guerre à mort" et "rendre la vogue au provençal par la flamme de la divine poésie".

Besitzer des Schiffes ist Kapitän SCHERIAU, dem ausserdem der Dampfer "Pascal" (Baujahr 1907) und das Motorschiff "Josef" ex "Glückauf" der Firma Hofmeister, Regensburg, und ex Brandner Schifffahrt gehören. Der Schraubendampfer "Frederic Mistral" hat eine bewegte Geschichte hinter sich. Gebaut wurde er 1914 bei N.V. Machinefabriek V/N Schipper & Van Dongen in Gertruidenburg (NL) als "Columbia". Im Oktober 1918 gelangte er im rumänischen Corabia, Strom-km 630,000 als Kriegsbeute an Frankreich. Ab 1943 wurde er von der DDSG bereedert. 1945 kam er zurück an Frankreich. Dort hatte ihn die Societe Francaise de Navigation Danubienne (SFND), Paris/Braila, bis zu seiner Ausmusterung im Einsatz. Die technischen Daten von "Frederic Mistral": Länge 26,50 Meter, Breite 5,40 Meter, Tiefgang 1,80 Meter, Wasserverdrängung 145,55 Tonnen, Leistung 250 PS. In Rumänien befanden bzw. befinden sich noch weitere Dampfschraubenschlepper der SFND. "Descartes", Baujahr 1896 in Budapest, "Jaques Vuccino", Baujahr 1907 in Budapest, "Lavosier", Baujahr 1896 in Budapest, "Molier", Baujahr 1908 in Kiel und "Drac", Baujahr 1914 in Linz.
