The Farfarers, Before the Norse
Farley Mowat
Farley Mowat, who 40 years ago proposed his theories involving the Viking discovery of America in "Westviking," offers up an original hypothesis in this provocative history of Atlantic exploration. A professional rabble-rouser, Mowat posits that a group of Europeans, whom he calls "the Albans," may have come to America hundreds of years before the Vikings. Mowat, who readily acknowledges the scarcity of historical evidence, fills in the details with stories of his own travels, a great collection of maps and made-up sections of invented ancient narrative. This book would be an excellent choice for modern voyagers setting out across the North Atlantic to the New World. View Book Bag

    http://www.farleymowat.com/biography.asp
Farley Mowat is an author who writes entertaining stories about his childhood. After you have finished one of his stories, it feels you have know him for a long time. He writes stories that are rich in voice that capture the attention of many readers. Farley writes about his childhood, but I can assure you that he had no normal childhood. After all, not every boy gets to keep wild animals as regular pets. His studies as a child grew into a passion to study animals in the wild. After a career of studying animals he decided to share his own ideas by becoming an author. A lot of kids who love animals have to travel far or can't ever see real wild animals, but where Farley was growing up he had an advantage. Wherever he lived there where always animals near by. His childhood allowed him to get a head start in his career of becoming a naturalist. Farley's parents also encouraged him to love animals. They let him keep wild animals in the house! Farley's father helped him build cages for his pets, and his mother helped take care of his animals. So like his entire childhood, his family was unusual. One would question what other families thought of his family. After a while Farley's hobby of keeping pets became more than just a hobby! It grew into a passion of studying the wild animals. When Farley had grown up and became a naturalist, he would probably look back on his childhood and think of these things that helped him get where he is as an adult.

I've read many of his books, such as Two Against the North, Lost in the Barrens etc., and loved them. His story settings are mostly adventures in cold northern Canada. Sean Craft, Box 1090, Bragg Creek, AB TOL OKO Wed, 13 Jun 2001 Dear Farley Mowat, I am a fourteen and two months and I go to Springbank community high school. I am a special needs boy and I am taking a lot of courses like wildlife, English, math, P.E., computers classes (ect). When I am at home I watch television, play on the computer and play my N64 nintendo games like Turok Two and three. Mr. Mowat the part in the book that I like is the parade. In the parade I like weeps and wol dress in dolls clothes and mutt look like a tame lion with a lions mane around his neck. Another part I like is wol stealing mutt dinner and bone away where he couldn't reach, most of all wol like to play the tail squeeze game and mutt would yelp. I like the parts because they made me happy and sad. Mr. Mowat If you are starting to write a new book I would be delighted to read your book if you can make copies of it. When I read your first book it was the most spectacular book that made me feel good. At the end of the book I felt a little sad. When I was finish with the book the best part was expressing my thoughts. When some of your newest book come in I will start reading your work again and will write another letter to you. Thank you Mr. Mowat
