Joseph Nassise Curatus : Our guest tonight doesn't need much of an introduction, so I'll be brief… meet Joseph Nassise, author of RIVERWATCH and co-author of SPECTRES and DARKNESS. Tell us a little bit about yourself, Joe. Jnassise : Sure, I started writing seriously about two years ago. One novel and one collection under my belt to date. Riverwatch has been nominated for the international horror guild award and optioned as a feature film Curatus : How thrilling! Jnassise : It has been a great year Curatus : How long have you been writing? Jnassise : 2 years Curatus : Oh my. Only two years. That is impressive. And what did you do before that? Jnassise : …though Riverwatch was written on a dare ten years ago. I never really considered writing - been in sales before that. Curatus You're the second author who's told me that. So, what led you into the profession ... just the dare? Jnassise : Yeah, after finding the old manuscript in a trunk I thought I’d clean it up and put it out for a few friends thru pod, then it got picked up by a new small press publisher and here I am. Curatus : A side of good fortune is always good with raw talent, isn't it?

"From Darkness Forth, by Suzon Claire, is an exquisite tapestry of settings, themes, and voices. Placed in the present, From Darkness Forth effortlessly transports us back to the 18th century and returns us to the moment as if it were the most common of occurrences. Part Gothic Romance, part supernatural, part horror, part mystery, this novel sews its multiple threads together creating a masterful plot of love and cruelty, fear and hope, to create a story as universal in scope as it is unique in approach.
Suzon Claire's ability to shift her narrative and dialogue from the modern day to the 18th century is expert. Her words ring true and alternate the lushness of a language past with the casual slang of modern speech. In this book, past meets present and time seems inconsequential. From Darkness Forth is a well-paced, carefully honed story that will grab your attention from the first page and quickly enmesh you in its web of intrigue. For anyone who reads gothic romance or loves a good horror story, this book is a perfect melding of genres guaranteed to keep you reading."

52. From Darkness Forth--News And Reviews
and worthwhile read. I can’t think of a better epitaph for a horrornovel, can you? joseph M. nassise, author of Riverwatch.
http://www.fuzzywunkle.net/fromdarknessforth/reviews.htm
"It is my personal opinion that the vampire novel has been done to death in recent years. I'm tired of sensuous bloodsuckers that roam the nights searching for their humanity. I'm tired of heartless fiends that look on us mere mortals as nothing more than cattle. I'm tired of vampires, period.
From Darkness Forth , is another vampire tale that manages to remind me that although vampire books are a dime a dozen, good vampire books are few and far between. And there is no question in my mind that From Darkness Forth is one of the good ones.
Claire's protagonist, Gervais Quenlin, is the son of a landowner in colonial New England. As many strong willed sons will do, Gervais has a falling out with his father and is sent to study in Paris. There he falls in love with Violaine, an exotic beauty from whom he accidentally receives the "gift" of vampirism. Not believing her tales of what will happen when his mortal form finally dies, Gervais breaks off the relationship, convinced she is crazy. He remains in Europe until he receives the sad news that his mother has passed away while giving birth to his younger sister Helene. Determined not to allow his sibling to grow up influenced only by his father, Gervais returns to New England and raises his sister until she is thrown from a horse at the age of eight and dies. Consumed with grief, Gervais kills himself a week later.

RIVERWATCH

Barclay Books, llc

ISBN 1931402191 There was a time when I was younger, that I would read a story that started off bad and keep reading in hopes that it would get better. I felt the same about movies and pretty much everything else in life - except for relationships. Those start off good and grow steadily worse. What I found with books and movies though was that if the tale started off bad it wasn't going to gete any better, in fact it was going to get worse. This is especially true for horror movies and stories. If the writer/director doesn't know how to start the tale they damn sure aren't going to know how to finish it. A case in point is Dario Argento. His movies have such wonderful, intriguing middles. That guy can write middles like its nobody's business. But his beginnings and endings are for the birds. This brings me to Joe Nassise new novel RIVERWATCH . For those who enjoy the Varmint In The Basement style of stories, this is the one for you. We have the varmint who escapes from his centuries old curse to once again wreak havoc to a small, out of the way community. Why does this happen to those small out of the way towns all the time, you ask. Why not big cities? Why only small towns?

Jon Merz and Joseph Nassise Welcome to our first Savage Night interview! This issue we have special guests Jon F. Merz (author of The Fixer The Invoker ), and Joseph Nassise (Stoker nominated author of Riverwatch and new president of the HWA). Merz and Nassise teamed up earlier this year to start the fantastic online mag for writers, Planet Pulp Magazine SN: Welcome guys, and thanks for joining us on Savage Night. I really appreciate your willingness to talk to us. Both of you have had some recent successes with your writing. Could you let us in on a few of your upcoming projects? Nassise: Sure. Pocket Books will be coming out with a mass market reprint of my debut novel RIVERWATCH mid 2003. After that, they will also be publishing at least the first two books in my new dark fantasy series, the Templar Chronicles. Book one, HERETIC, is slated for early 2004 and book two, DARKNESS COMING on, for late 2004/early 2005. I'm also editing the VERTE BRUME anthology for Medium Rare Books, with stories from Ketchum, Clegg, Brite, Kiernan, Clark, Lebbon, Navarro, and more, which will see print in 2003.
Merz: Book 1 in my Lawson Vampire series, THE FIXER debuted last May. Book 2, THE INVOKER is out October 2002. Book 3, THE DESTRUCTOR comes out March 2003 and book 4, THE SYNDICATE, will be released in August of 2003. I currently have a stand-alone supernatural thriller VICARIOUS awaiting a decision from Pocket Books and my hard-boiled PI novel DANGER-CLOSE is being shopped around as well.
