A site dedicated to the Spenser novels by Robert B. Parker This Site originally created by Mike Loux Latest update 21 March 2003 by Bob Ames BREAKING NEWS: On Sunday 09 March 2003 the Boston Globe ran a short interview with Dr. Parker by Washington DC writer and critic Robin Dougherty. She got the name of our favorite detective right but the paper titled it " For Spencer fans, a 30th installment" and they carried the misspelling to the web link on their site. Tonight I fired off the following letter to the editors: "For shame. Here in the home town of my favorite fictional detective the newspaper of record titles an article about Robert Parker's latest novel 'For Spencer fans, a 30th installment.' The name's Spenser with an 's', like the poet." If I don't get an acceptable response I'll have to contact the ombudsman. Either way I see a new page in the making ;) NEW! Jack O'Toole, a contributor to this site, has started a web page called The Mystery Fan Bullets and Bee r and the Spensarium shared his very first Web Site of The Day.

Baby Cala February Update: Cala has her own website! Send me an email for the password. Hello We are so grateful that you are taking the time to read about our family. We met at the church where Karen taught music. One day Karen needed Robert's expertise in Microsoft Excel. We made a deal that Karen would cook dinner if Robert would teach her Excel. We enjoyed our dinner conversation so much that we never got to the computer training! Soon after we began to date. We even discussed how wonderful it would be if we could adopt children. We both assumed we would have a couple of children, and then we would adopt a couple of children. We knew then Karen would be a stay-at-home-mom. Cala Brianne, Our Sweetie! Why Pursue Adoption? Links: Futaba Corporation In 1999 we began trying to start our family. We later learned that we would not be able to conceive naturally. After several months we started to learn about adoption. We are fortunate to have friends who have adopted and/or were adopted. We sought their advice, we read books and researched. Contact Us: Phone: 1-800-790-2237 Code: 88 Email: parkersinal@knology.net

Parker G. P. Putnam's Sons Thriller ISBN: 0399147101 Read an Excerpt All of the above applies to POTSHOT, Parker's 30th or so Spenser novel. POTSHOT removes Spenser from his familiar Boston environs to Potshot, Arizona, a small resort town where a businessman has been murdered. Spenser has been retained by Mary Lou Buckman, the widow of the deceased. All suspicion for the murder is cast upon a gang of lowlifes living near Potshot who have been extorting money from the townspeople. The gang, led by a mysterious figure known only as The Preacher, seems to hold the police department helpless and the town in terror. While Spenser is known as well for his self-confidence as for his lighthearted repartee, he also knows when to seek assistance. This is one of those times; Spenser not only calls upon the redoubtable Hawk, but also upon a group of past associates who will have longtime readers scrambling to past novels to refresh their collective recollection. As Spenser and company begin turning over rocks and tumbleweeds, they soon discover that all is not as it seems, and what appears to be a local problem has roots that stretch as far as southern California.

We are located in a 23,000 square foot facility, completed in September, 1998, on a 77 acre campus in North Greenbush, two miles east of I-90's Exit 8.
The Robert C. Parker School is a progressive, child-centered school where we seek to know our students as individuals with evolving skills, complex feelings, and divergent experiences. Parker is a community which values its children and allows them to grow into themselves. We are intentionally small, a place where each person is known, students and faculty alike.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Robert B Parker is the bestselling author of more than 30 books, including Small Vices Night Passage Trouble in Paradise Hush Money ... Hugger Mugger and Perish Twice , the first and second Sunny Randall mysteries (all published by No Exit). He lives in Boston. ABOUT THE BOOK Spenser is back and embroiled in a deceptively dangerous and multi-layered case: someone has been killing racehorses at stables across the south, and the Boston P.I. travels to Georgia to protect the two-year old destined to become the next Secretariat. When Spenser is approached by Walter Clive, president of the Three Fillies Stables, to find out who is threatening his horse Hugger Mugger, he can hardly say no: he's been doing pro bono work for so long his cupboards are just about bare.

Here's to the man in the ironic mask!
"Under a forehead roughly comparable to that of Javanese and Piltdown Man are visible a pair of tiny pig eyes, lit up alternatively by greed and concupiscence ." (Self-description) "Before they made S.J Perelman, they broke the mold." (Self-portrait) "I saw him as a verbal clown with literary overtones. For instance, when he kissed Margaret Dumont, I'd have him say: 'Goodbye, my little mountain flower. My regiment leaves at dawn.' 'What's this about a regiment?' he'd say. It's a parody of The Merry Widow , I'd say. And he'd worry over the intricacies of the line like a medieval schoolman. 'How can an audience laugh at a joke about something they never even heard of?' he would complain." (On Groucho)
Sidney Joseph Perelman is probably best known for writing the Marx Brothers movies Monkey Business and Horsefeathers . An absolute master of irony and satire, he also wrote more than a dozen books, numerous screenplays, plays, and volumes of essays (including the non-comedic book, and later screenplay for

Robert B. Parker
Well, the guy has balls, anyway. It's one thing to be compared to Hammett, Chandler and Macdonald. It's another to step into Chandler's shoes, and finish the last Philip Marlowe novel, Poodle Springs , which Parker did in 1989. Mind you, Parker has never played it safe. He wrote his dissertation for a Ph.D. in 1971 on Hammett, Chandler and Macdonald, and his private eye hero, Spenser , was more than merely an atempt to carry on those beloved private eye traditions; it was also a brave, unapologetic no-holds barred attempt to drag those traditions, kicking and screaming, into the modern age. Traditionalists were quick to denounce him, and he was certainly the victim of more than a few fellow writers' gripes (or even grapes), but Parker's Spenser, like it or not, has left the biggest mark on the genre in decades. Certainly none of his contemporaries, even those who are arguably better writers, has had as much influence on the genre in terms of popularity and impact. Spenser's first four novels were an explosive opening salvo that has still to be matched. Here was a P.I. who wasn't a California-bound loser and loner, who actually enjoyed his life, and was capable, it seemed, of having an actual relationship with a woman who wasn't a ditzy housewife or some psycho-killer nympho. He's as cold and ruthless as
