Glenmore
A celebration Mass and reception took place in St. James Church, Glenmore on Friday 23rd of August, 2002 to mark the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Ordination to the priesthood of five priests, natives of Glenmore. It was a beautiful celebration on a lovely five evening. The 25th Anniversary was held on the 28th August, 1987 and was a very wet evening, fifteen years ago. Fr. Dan Cody, Carrigcloney, Fr. Nicholas Duggan, Flemingstown, Fr. Paul Fitzgerald, Knockbrock and Fr. Dick Phelan, Coolanaleen were ordained on Sunday the 3rd 1962. Fr. Michael Mernagh O.S.A. Forristalstown an Augustinian who was ordained in Rome on the 17th February 1963.
The last ordination of a native of the parish was Fr. Tom Cody of Carrigcloney a brother of Fr. Dan who was ordained in St. Kieran’s College Kilkenny on Sunday 6th of June 1968. Glenmore Parish Council are delighted on behalf of the parishioners to honour them, the Council commissioned Maeve Doherty, an artist from the parish to do a painting of Glenmore Church and village. Each priest was presented with a framed print from an original watercolour. The painting captures a scene very familiar to these priests as they grew up in Glenmore. It shows the landscape of Glenmore where they played and worked and also the Church where they received their faith and the Sacraments and the cemetery where their deceased loved ones are buried.
The presentations were made by the lady members of Glenmore Parish Council, Fr. Nickey Duggan was presented with the painting by Kathleen Hartley, Fr. Paul Fitzgerald was presented with the painting by Kathleen Cody, Fr. Michael Mernagh was presented with the painting by Bridget Murray, Fr. Dick Phelan was presented with the painting by Sarah Roche, Fr. Dan Cody was unable to attend, his painting was presented by Maureen Mernagh to his brother Dick Cody of Carrigcloney.

The First Senior County Title Hurling history was made at Nowlan Park on December 8, 1935, when James Stephens won their first senior hurling title, beating Carrickshock by 3-5 to 2-5 after a battle royal which held a crowd of 1,500 spellbound for the hour. It was for more reasons than one that this was an historic day for The Village. They had three testing games against Tullaroan before eventually qualifying for the final. Carrickshock came into the final with quite a degree of confidence having beaten Mooncoin and Dicksboro to qualify.
Peter Blanchfield for The Village at left full was the cleverest defender on view and tried and trusted county defender Paddy Larkin had a spectacular game at full-back. Showing a vast improvement on all their previous performances the James Stephens' forwards were in brilliant form, each man pulling his weight to the full and Mick Larkin was the key man in this sector, combining brilliantly with Billy Ayres and Tom Dunne in the full-line. Ritchie Fennelly, Mick Leahy and Lar Carroll were outstanding in the half-line. The James Stephens' half-back line of Philly O'Dwyer, Mick Tyrrell and Mick Hanly were very sound with J. Dowling proving his worth in The Village goal.

A football club was formed in Kells in 1886 and played in the first county championship of 1887. Kells did well in those early years, but had the misfortune to win and then lose (following an objection by Ballyhale) the senior championship of 1889. They won the junior football championship of 1910 and 1915.

The support for our team has been so overwhelming, and we will be at our goal of $450,000 before we know it! Go TEAM! ***** News Flash ***** Louie Bonpua had a story in the San Jose Mercury News just one day before his bone marrow test at Stanford Hospital. Louie will find out the test results on March 27th regarding how his body is responding to Glivec (formally known as STI-571 in Dr. Druker's study). CNN also published a story re:the success of Glivec: "Worldwide, about 5,000 leukemia patients are taking Glivec experimentally. Studies of the drug are also underway in patients with prostate, lung and brain cancer, as well as patients with a rare form of stomach cancer. According to Novartis, the FDA has given the drug a "fast track" designation. So it's possible that, only three years after the first patient tried it, Glivec could be on the market for treatment of leukemia by the end of 2001."

Matt Herron, photographer for the Black Star agency in NY, worked with Jim Phelan on the Saturday Evening Post article about the New Orleans investigation. I knew Matt quite well before working on this case and saw him this afternoon at his home, 315 Pine St. There were quite a few people present. He told me that he was favorably disposed towards the investigation, and wants to see it succeed. He thinks there was a conspiracy and is a friend of and thinks along the same lines as Vincent Salandria. He volunteered the following information regarding Jim Phelan and Perry Russo. Phelan interviewed Perry Russo in Baton Rouge after the Preliminary Hearing. Also present at this meeting was Russo's room-mate and Matt Herron. Phelan asked Russo twice during this interview if it was true that he, Russo, had not mentioned a meeting between Shaw, Ferrie and Oswald until he came to New Orleans. According to Matt Herron, Russo agreed that he did not mention such a meeting until his arrival in N.O. Herron seemed to remember Russo saying something like "I guess not" in response to Phelan saying was it not true that the meeting didn't come up until he was questioned in New Orleans. Matt Herron also said to me, "I thing you've got the wrong man, Tom." He was referring to Clay Shaw, and the group of people with him seemed to be unanimous in believing that Shaw was innocent.

    And So We Meet Again....
    saturday, march 22
I had to dig through GJoe's archives to find this, but this is an essay that I read in September of 2002.
It spawned an interest to learn more and to develop my own opinions about our relations with countries of the Middle East.
I believe everyone should take a few minutes of their time and read this
This was the word of Andy at 11:55 PM........Amen postCount('91213173'); Comments
I am politely steering away from talking about this war in my blog. I don't really want to argue about it. I don't want to discuss it. I am, however, enthralled with it. The only time my television has not been tuned to War Coverage is when I would flip to see the basketball scores on CBS
I will, however, offer TWO opinions that I have on current world events:
    - I am for this war. I am proud of our soldiers and fellow citizens who are over there defending the freedom, honor and integrity of this land. I am very confident that our men and women of the Armed Forces won't return home until the operation is successfully completed. People will tell me that I am way off base by saying they are defending our rights and freedom, but, in my opinion, that's what they are doing. It's hard to justify a war over the fear of something happening in the future. There are so many things about Operation Iraqi Freedom that are faux pa' amongst so many circles; so many things that just can't be said aloud in public - but those things are the reason this needs to happen. Things that are not considered PC.

Norwegian Sun Cruise Review Doug Phelan Age: 33: Number of Cruises: 2 Cruise Line: Norwegian Name of Ship: Norwegian Sun Sailing Date: November Itinerary: Western Caribbean e ve. A second issue is that the shore excursions are grossly overpriced. I have heard rumors of what percentage the cruise ship keeps but since I can't verify this, I won't print it. Where I had the issue was with respect to value and I will mention this when I list the ports of call. Fitness facilities are absolutely excellent and the running/walking deck has a very comfortable surface. If you are a workout fanatic you will not lose your routine because you are at sea. I felt that about 75% of the staff were very friendly and comprised an interesting mix of cultures. I have found that most have some interesting stories about where they are from and it is actually quite informing to have a conversation whit some of these people. House keeping was exceptional, period. The evening entertainment was excellent, every bit as good as Disney Cruise Line. So, in summary, from a ship point of view, the situation is that its a new boat, well cared for and has everything that you need. Freestyle cruising is very good, can be made a little better, but is the only way that I would ever cruise.
