February 1987 An administrative law judge at PERB rules that TAs ans RAs have the right to collective bargaining under HEERA. Although these growth factors have been classically defined as critical regulators of neuronal differentiation and survival, they also have important functions in modulating synaptic activity and mediating cell death. We are pursuing several lines of investigation including (1) regulation of neurotrophin processing, from inactive pro-peptides to active, species capable of binding both trk receptors and the p75 receptor; (2) identifying the signaling pathways mediating neuritogenesis, and impacting upon synaptic function; (3) determining the roles of neurotrophins in regulating retinal development.
