Who are we?
This site is constructed by the Celebi family for their great-grandfather, Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi, the great Anatolian philosopher , poet and the father of the Mevlevi sect. In 1996 we have lost Dr. Celaleddin Bakir Celebi the 19 th great-grandson of Mevlana (21 st generation descendant) and the past " Celebi ," the leader of the Mevlevi sect. He was the the 32 nd Celebi to occupy the post. We prepared this site in memory of him. A special section of this web site is dedicated to Dr. Celebi and a selection of his writings. more Since Mevlana's death, Celebi family kept detailed record of their family tree. According to these records Celebi family is one of the oldest families in the world. Our family tree includes 26 generations and spans more than eight centuries from the present 21 st great-grandchildren of Mevlana to his great-great father, Ahmed-i Hatibi of 12

Small selection by Persian poet rumi in English translation.

Jalaluddin Rumi (1207-1273)
A REED A craftsman pulled a reed from the reedbed, cut holes in it, and called it a human being. Since then, it's been wailing a tender agony of parting, never mentioning the skill that gave it life as a flute. (translated by Coleman Barks) FROM THE INSIDE I have lived on the lip of insanity knocking on the door. It opens. I have been knocking from the inside. (translated by Coleman Barks) QUATRAINS Don't let your throat tighten with fear. Take sips of breath all day and night. Before death closes your mouth. There's no love in me without your being, no breath without that. I once thought I could give up this longing, then thought again, But I couldn't continue being human. (translated by Coleman Barks) Return to: Revised: June 13, 1997

Rumi's Rubaiyat
Translated by Zara Houshmand Beginning in April 2000, I made a commitment to translate one of Rumi's quatrains each day for iranian.com. Jahanshah Javid chose the poems; it was part of my commitment that I would accept the choice, no matter how difficult, and do my best to create an equivalent poem in English. I hoped in the process to improve my Persian and get closer to Rumi's heart; it's also probably the wisest thing I've ever done to grow as a poet myself. I'm grateful to Jahanshah for making this possible, and also to the many readers who have offered encouragement and corrections. If you would like to be informed when the translations are published as a book, please send me an email: zh@mindspring.com

........RUMI........
L I N K S
Jalal el-Din Rumi was more than just a poet. He was a perfect master. A master that could spin tales of the universe with verse that could allow others to realize their true nature and fulfill their ultimate destiny as being one with Allah. His poems were more down to earth than the great master poet Hafez and thus have been easier to translate as well as being more easily digested into the English vocabulary. Rumi is a great place to start to capture the divine fire of Sufism and the Sufi way of LOVE. Not to be confused with mundane love.
The Seed Market Can you find another market like this?
Where,
with your one rose
you can buy hundreds of rose gardens? Where,
for one seed
you get a whole wilderness? For one weak breath,
the divine wind? You've been fearful
of being absorbed in the ground, or drawn up by the air. Now your waterbead lets go and drops into the ocean, where it came from. It no longer has the form it had, but it's still water. The essence is the same. This giving up is not a repenting. It's a deep honoring of yourself.

The Qur'an is the primary text of Islam, revealed to the Prophet Muhammed beginning in the year 610 C.E. It was canonicalized between 644 and 656. The Qur'an is required reading for anyone who wants to understand Islam. Qur'an means "The Recital" in Arabic; according to the story, the angel Gabriel commanded Muhammed to "Recite!". Devout Muslims do not believe that any text other than the actual Arabic text of the Quran (even a transliteration) can strictly be called 'the Qur'an'. This is because the Arabic text is considered canonical and there can be no other versions of it. The phrase 'the meaning of the Quran' is typically used to describe texts which elsewhere are described as 'translations'. Please be aware of this issue where this site refers to a 'translation' or 'transliteration' of the Quran. Hypertext Qur'an
