When you arrive, the OKAMI (Madam of Ryokan) or BANTO (General Manager of Ryokan) will usually welcome you at the entrance saying " IRASSHAIMASE " ("Welcome!"). If you see no one there, open the door, step inside and say " GOMENKUDASAI " (go-men-coo-dah-sigh) ("Excuse me!"). Then someone will take care of you. 2. In Japan, people remove their shoes before entering a house. You should do the same at the Ryokan. If you see a large rectangular stone or block in front of the landing, that's the place you take off your shoes. The shoe-keeper will keep your shoes until your departure. Slippers will be provided for use inside the Ryokan, and Japanese sandals Geta for use outdoors. * The slippers or GETA are all prepared for you in the proper places. If you open the door to a lavatory and find slippers, leave yours outside, and use the lavatory slippers inside. Leave them there when you go out andchange into your slippers again. In genere, queste, vengono servite direttamente all'interno della stanza. Oltre al Ryokan esiste un altro tipo di albergo orientale: il Minshuku . Questo, si differenzia dal primo, per la sua economicità, e per il fatto che più che un albergo vero e proprio, si come ospiti in casa di altri.

Established in 1818, Hiiragiya is reputably one of the most beloved of all the Japanese traditional inns. Under the ownership of the same family for five generations, Hiiragiya has played host to internationally famous writers, artists, politicians, scientists and members of the imperial family. Ryokan For a stay in the same Japan as experienced in the old and elegant Daimyo days, a night in the Ryokan (traditional Japanese hotel) is a must. We had the opportunity to stay at the beautiful Seki Kanko hotel in Gifu overlooking the wide Kisoriver and the green forest. A room in a Ryokan is floored with traditional Tatami matting. Doors are Shoji screens, and decorations are simple ink brush drawings or scrolls. Guests sleep on Futon bedding laid out in the evening by maids dressed in kimonos. Our ryokan had a communal spa and hot spring known as Onsen. The typical lounging wear of a Ryokan is a blue and white-patterned cotton robe called Yukata which is also provided. A stay in the Ryokan requires following a few rules. Guests need to remove their shoes and walk in slippers everywhere inside the hotel. However, on tattami matting no slippers or shoes are allowed. : the traditional and refined inns in Japan, most of which are owned and run by the family, still have been keeping its ways of inn-keeping tradition. You will be lucky if you choose a lovely old wooden ryokan which has been inherited by generation to generation, where you could enjoy Japanese inn architecture, garden and an old days life in Japan now the modern Japanese have lost. In order to enjoy your stay at Japanese Ryokan and make your inn experience memorable and special, a quick reference to Ryokan may help you locate the right ryokan with ease. RATES: One of the most different points between Ryokans and Hotels is the cost system. The room rate of Ryokan per-person-per-night basis includes 2 meals (dinner and breakfast) and the service charge (approx.10% of the room charge) as well unless remarked.Prices for staying are diverse according to the equipment of the rooms such as with private bath and toilet, with fine views or the size of the room. Special price will be offered in the low seasons or week days. The consumption tax (5 % of the total amount of expenses at the inn) is charged upon checking out. At hot spring inns, a tax for bathing is also charged, 150yen /per person /per day.
It is strongly advised to make a confirmation before booking for avoiding any misunderstanding.

Since the foundation of our RYOKAN style hotel, we have followed the spirit of Japanese traditions to offer our guests an experience in Japanese culture and traditions.
History of TATAMI and the Japanese Spirit TATAMI is the flooring material most suitable to the climate in Japan and has a history of 1,300 years.
They are thick mats made of woven rice straw and covered with woven rushes, and are used to cover the floors of Japanese houses.
Japanese have preferred TATAMI with its soft touch and spring due to their sensitiveness and caring feeling towards the family.
Many elements of the Japanese culture were imported from China and the Asian continent, but TATAMI is a material originating in Japan.
The most attractive features of TATAMI are the soft touch and spring that give a relaxing impression not seen in any other floor material. Furthermore, it retains heat and has a refreshing scent from the rush.
Rooms with TATAMI floors can be used for various purposes. It can be used for relaxation space, as it is safe for small children and elderly to lie down because of its cushion; it becomes a living room when a table is put inside; and it also becomes a bedroom when the FUTON mattress is spread out.
Although there are many successful western style hotels in Japan, we have observed such Japanese spirit and offer relaxing TATAMI rooms in nearly all of our guestrooms.
