From the Atlanta Journal Constitution
February 20, 2000 THE REEL SOUTH: FILM TRILOGY TRACES LITERARY RENAISSANCE FROM 1915 TO PRESENT
Those comments were mostly true in 1917, Spears says, but shortly after World War I the South underwent an amazing literary renaissance. The first film in the Tell About the South By comparing the blues poets to the Fugitive poets of Vanderbilt, Spears emphasizes his point that Southern literature was a partnership of blacks and whites. The second film, Prophets and Poets Recently completed, Let Freedom Ring will have its world premiere Saturday at a screening of the trilogy at the Rialto Center for the Performing Arts. Plans are to air all three parts of the series on PBS stations late this year or early 2001, Spears says. Spears and company began working on the project, funded primarily by the National Endowment for the Humanities, in 1990. Kenton Coe composed the orginal score for each film. After that it was a matter of convincing some often reclusive writers to agree to on-camera interviews. Cormac McCarthy turned them down, but nearly every other major Southern writer agreed. Alice Walker consented only after two years of communication. The next challenge was creating a visually interesting film.

    Louis Biancaniello - Writer/Musician
Q: What McDSP products do you use? How do you use them?
A: The Filterbank EQ is my EQ of choice in Protools. I use it on Vocals, Keyboards, Guitars, Strings Etc. Filterbank's rich analog sound allows me to keep my mixes totally in the digital domain of Protools. Compressorbank sounds amazing on a lead vocal.
Q: How are McDSP better than competing products?
A: McDSP sounds richer and more musical then any of the other EQs in protools. It is also incredibly flexible and fast to operate.
Q: What type of work do you do?
A: I am a record Producer-Song Writer-Musician-Engineer. I've had a #1 song in all of Europe by Anastacia called "I'm Outta Love" which I co-wrote and produced and recorded all in Protools using primarily Filterbank EQ (E6 and P6) on the Mix. Recently I had two hits with Jessica Simpson, "I Wanna Love You Forever" and "WhereYou Are" and I have a new ones coming out this year with 98 Degrees, Jessica Simpson and Lara Fabian. I have been fortunate enough to do records with some of the greats in the music business including Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Areatha Franklin, Elton John, Barbara Streisand, Michael Bolton, Color Me Badd, Tevin Cambell, Shanice, Jessica Simpson, 98 Degrees, Lara Fabian, The OJays, Gino Vannelli, Patti Austin, and Al Jarreau to name a few.
I have been involved with Three Grammy winning records one of which was "I'm Every Woman" by Whitney on the Bodyguard Soundtrack. I produced and played and recorded all of the music on this song while I was working with Narada Michael Walden as a staff producer.

suggest an addition or correction to the list see also: In the footsteps of Robert Louis Stevenson Dramatizations of Stevenson’s Life The 'biography of Robert Louis Stevenson' seems almost a minor literary genre in itself. Balfour's 1901 work is a necessary starting-point as he had known Stevenson and was able to consult family and friends. Those by Furnas and Le Bris are not only well-written but also involve the reader in the author's stubborn questioning of available evidence, questioning aimed at drawing some conclusions about the most probable version of events and their most plausible explanation. The work by Calder is also an essential reference for those interested in the life. Rankin's work involves more the 'questioning' of Stevensonian places to illuminate the life and works as well as aspects of cultural and historical evolution. McLynn's is anti-Osbourne but gives the fullest account of the Samoa period. Thanks to Lachie Munro for help with this page. Kirk, Sophia (1887). ‘Robert Louis Stevenson’.

A Short History of Shore Acres
Below is the fasinating story behind Shore Acres, as written by William Sullivan in Hiking Oregon's History . It's an excellent book with fascinating stories from all over Oregon and an addicting read even if you don't intend to visit any of the places in the book. This book is worth its weight in gold so just go out and buy it, okay? It's one of the few books you'll be glad you did! Breakers crash against the tilted sandstone cliffs of Cape Arago on the rugged Southern Oregon coast near Coos Bay. Sea lions bark from offshore rock reefs. Wavelets lap the beaches of hidden coves. If this seems an unlikely backdrop for a formal English garden, welcome to the surprises of Shore Acres State Park. North Bend timber baron Louis Simpson bought this dramatic seaside estate as a 1906 Christmas surprise for his wife. Today Simpson's mansion is gone, but a state park preserves the elaborate gardens and a lovely hiking trail along the grand old estate's shore. Start your exploration by walking across the park lawns to a glass-walled observation building overlooking the ocean cliffs. So far you'll have walked only a few hundred feet, but it's almost precisely the same route explored by Louis J. Simpson in 1905 on his first visit. Simpson was overseeing one of his many timber cruising crews when, following an ancient path, the group stumbled upon the cabin of Jake Evans, a wizened hermit whose Indian wife had died years before. Simpson saw a glint of ocean through the trees and decided to take a closer look.

NEWSLETTERS Great American Investor Invests in Foundation "I believe in the importance of moving out in new directions, in capitalizing on opportunities which exist . . . the Foundation has theleadership now to do this effectively."
Louis A. Simpson A value investor to the core, Louis A. Simpson WF'58 purchases large stakes in just a few companies with steady growth prospects and market-dominating tendencies, according to a New York Times account. That, at least, has been his strategy since 1979 as the head of investments for Geico, the auto insurance company based in Washington, DC. And now, one of America's great investors - "an extraordinary professional," according to Warren Buffet, naming Simpson as a potential successor at Berkshire Hathaway - has made a personal investment of $500,000 in the Woodrow Wilson Foundation, the largest such gift in the Foundation's history. The pledge will be fulfilled within a five-year period, with the first installment having been received in December, 1998. Announcement of the gift was made at a February meeting of the Foundation Trustees, where it was met with great enthusiasm. "This gift is historic in its generosity," said Eleanor T. Elliott, Chairman of the Board. "It is equally important because it shows Lou Simpson's wonderful conviction that we should go forward with new ventures as our mission evolves and expands."
