1957 - present Sporting new fully maroon jerseys emblazoned with a huge white sea eagle across the chest, Manly returned to the semi-finals in 1957. The Manly Sea Eagles side was coached by 27 year-old Ken Arthurson who had been forced into early player retirement by injury. Arthurson's team boasted some great and experienced players including Roy Bull, George Hunter, Rex Mossop, Ray Ritchie, Ron Willey, George Hugo and Peter Burke. The side reached the qualifying Final and the Sea Eagles fought back dramatically from an 11-2 deficit against South Sydney at half-time, to record a win by 15-11 and a place in the Grand Final against St. George. Manly held the Dragons to 4-all nearing the break, before an against the run of play intercept from a wayward pass saw Tom Ryan sprint away to score in the corner. After Harry Bath converted the try St. George led at half-time by 9-4, but the Sea Eagles appeared to be deflated by the jolt. The second half was one to forget for Manly as they eventually lost 31-9. The Arthurson coaching era saw Manly consistently make the semi-finals over the following seasons until at the end of the 1961 season he stood down to embark on his celebrated administrative career.

Robert G. Stanton , a lifelong conservationist and a 30-year career public administrator, served for three and one-half years as the Director of the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. He was nominated as the Director by President Clinton on June 26, 1997, confirmed by the United States Senate, and sworn into office on August 4, 1997. He was the 15th person to serve as the Director of the National Park Service and the first African American to hold that position since the agency was established by Congressional legislation in August 1916. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Mr. Stanton grew up in Mosier Valley, one of the oldest African American communities in Texas. Mr. Stanton accepted the position as Director after having retired in January 1997 as the Regional Director of the National Capital Region in Washington, D.C., where for 8 years he was responsible for 40 park units located in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. These areas attracted more than 38 million visitors annually to such popular sites as the White House, Washington Monument, Frederick Douglass National Historic Site, Ford's Theatre National Historic Site, the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, Antietam National Battlefield, Wolf Trap Farm Park for the Performing Arts, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, Piscataway Park, and Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park. He has been cited in several professional and technical publications and has serviced as keynote speaker at university convocations and major national and international conferences. He has represented the National Park Service and the U.S. Department of the Interior on the John E Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Board of Trustees, Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts Board of Directors, U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council and the Committee for the Preservation of the White House.

STONEY STANTON ROAD CHIEF SUPERINTENDENT BOB MINSHULL Stoney Stanton Road operational command unit is responsible for policing north east Coventry and comprises three sectors, Radford, Bell Green and Wyken and Central (covering Foleshill and Wood End). The year saw the opening of the last sector base at Bell Green in a ceremony attended by the Chief Constable and our local MP and Home Office Minister Bob Ainsworth. The OCU shares a boundary with Warwickshire Constabulary and has been developing cross-border collaboration protocols for policing the new Prologis Business Park which, when completed, will be one of the largest in the UK. Reducing youth offending
Officers from Central Sector ran summer schemes in partnership with local businesses to provide activities for over 450 children during the school holidays. Close liaison with other agencies also led to seven Anti-Social Behaviour Orders being obtained against local juveniles, resulting in a fall in crime and anti-social behaviour. In June, officers from Bell Green and Wyken took part in a truancy initiative with education welfare officers. Nearly 200 children were stopped and more than half, who had no acceptable reason for their absence, were returned to school. The operation led to a reduction in crime, several arrests and the development of a closer and more professional relationship between other agencies and the police.

Holy Cow! WFIU hits the big Five-O. Like the mortgage in Woody Guthrie's "Farmer is the Man Who Feeds Us All," time has settled down among us and it has never gone away. There are few experiences that I can recall of being in Bloomington that were more enjoyable than the years of being part of the team at WFIU; the support of the pros, Don Glass, George Walker, Michael Bourne and others along with the wonderful characters that did the specialty shows, Dick Bishop and Ross Allen, like myself. But I’m getting ahead in my story. For a little more than eight years, from 1977 to 1985 I was “the Radio Ranger” and hosted the local folk music program (though today vernacular music might strike me as a better term for what I presented). The program born on the fourth of July 1977 was Music Down Home, a weekly program on Thursday evenings that featured regional and ethnic music from as many communities as we could find. We were a family—the listeners and I— and many of the ideas for programs and music for programs came from the people who listened.

Evolution of fossil communities in Neogene San Joaquin Basin, California. The Neogene strata exposed in the Kettleman hills of California were deposited in an embayment of the Pacific Ocean in a series of cycles of marine through non-marine conditions. Although marine conditions were essentially the same during each cycle, the fossil communities differ in detail. This appears to be caused by recruitment and evolution of different organisms from the open Pacific coast during each cycle. This pattern of change gives us insight into the nature of change or evolution at the community level. Dodd has been studying these cycles with Bob Stanton. In many respects modern tropical carbonate sediments and Cenozoic tropical limestones are a poor analog for Paleozoic tropical limestones. In face, modern and Cenozoic non-tropical carbonates are more similar to Paleozoic tropical limestones because of their similarity in original mineral composition. We can demonstrate this similarity by a comparison of Cenozic limestones on New Zealand with Mississippian limestones of Indiana. Dodd has conducted such a comparison with Campbell Nelson of the University of Waikato in New Zealand. He continues to have interest in non-Tropical limestones as a diagenetic analog to Paleozoic tropical limestones.

Team Member Profiles Bob Hamel Russ Stanton Lamia Stanton Mike Burke This is where I force you to enrich your life by reading all about my very long and fascinating athletic history. I am not a natural athlete. As a kid I was worse than the last one chosen for the team. The game start was usually delayed to conclude the fights over who would get stuck with me. That was about time to go home for dinner, so we didn't play many sports in my neighborhood.
Reasoning that team sports weren't for me, and that I could go nowhere but up; I started downhill skiing in eighth grade. After five years of lessons and practicing by myself to avoid fights I noticed that I wasn't too bad. It seemed that I was now skiing alone because there just weren't that many who could keep up-a new experience. Seven more years of dedicated practice didn't help my social skills, but sure improved my skiing. In fact I was bored with it. There just weren't many challenging slopes around. It was time to either take the plunge into Corbet's Couloir or dump that sport (Corbet's Couloir web page http://www.xmission.com/~hound/corbets/index.htm

- Series Producer and Host A love of the sea and enthusiasm for the sport of scuba steered him towards his vocation. In 1986 He created Divers Down Television Series as a way to bring others to scuba diving vicariously. Dedicated to bringing you realistic sport diving adventures, Mark designs each show to reflect what an average diver might encounter if he or she visited the same site. His aim is to bring more people to the sport by showing the fun aspects of diving rather than the typical high adventure and dangerous side of things. Scuba diving is a safe and exciting activity available to almost anyone. Mark handles field production and is also our number one underwater videographer. On location he is responsible for directing the entire crew, making sure we go home with the footage needed to build a show. In the edit suite Mark writes the scripts and edits the programs on the latest video editing hardware.
