Kalamazoo Men, Denison Women sweep three dual meets at 1st Annual Four Horses Quad Meet November 16, 2002 - Ypsilanti, MI - The Kalamazoo College Hornets men's team won 9 of 13 events to sweep 3 dual meets on Friday night at Eastern Michigan University. The meet included Kalamazoo College, Hope College, Calvin College and Denison University. These four men's teams all finished in the top 10 at NCAA D-3 Nationals last year. On the women's side, Denison University won 9 of 13 events to sweep.
The Kalamazoo Men defeated Denison 150-92, Calvin 171-60, and Hope 161.5-76.5 to improve to 6-1 this season. "This was a great meet, maybe the best that Division 3 swimming has to offer" says Hornet's Head Coach Bob Kent.
Men's double event winners included Sophomore Andrew Kurtz (Kalamazoo) in the 50 Freestyle (:21.98) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:11.86), and Sophomore Tony Holt (Kalamazoo) in 1M and 3M Diving. Holt is the defending D3 Champion on 3M and recently edged his way into Kalamazoo College history by breaking 6-time National Champion Jeff Gorton's varsity record on 1M Diving.
The meet began with the relay of Josh Pfau, Andrew Kurtz, Victor Stover and Judsen Schneider posting a Kalamazoo victory in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3:34.19. "Winning that relay really set the tone for the entire meet, our team was fired up and ready to swim fast" reflects Assistant Coach Brian Miller.

Enhancement of Biobased Products from Sorghum Grain With Optimized Production and Composition Using Advanced Genomics
Orion Genomics, LLC, Missouri 1st District
Principle Contact: Mr. Nathan Lakey, Orion Genomics, LLC, (314) 615-6977
    Duration: 5 years
Orion and its partners will develop sorghum grain as a feedstock for biobased products. Advanced genetic tools will be used to study the relationship between genetic sequence and optimal grain composition, starch content, and other traits contributing to sorghum productivity and processability. The results will be used in a breeding program to create a more productive sorghum hybrid with a higher sugar content. Sorghum's tolerance to dry conditions will be enhanced, enabling production in areas unsuitable for crops such as corn. Grain processing and separation technologies will be optimized for the conversion of sorghum to sugars. Title: STOLEN WISHES by Deb Stover
    AN AUTHOR GOES ONLINE
Thank you, RT, for giving this online junkie one more reason to log on. I'm hopelessly addicted. A lost cause. I struggle against the urge to type (G) [grin] into letters, and ROFL [rolling on the floor laughing] into a note to a child's teacher. When my bank added online banking, I sent a thank you note to the president. My husband now realizes and accepts that diamonds won't thrill me nearly as much as a brand new high speed modem. Well... Like I said, I'm hopelessly addicted...and I wouldn't have it any other way. With the publication of STOLEN WISHES, I've taken my obsession to new heights. I have my own web site at www.debstover.comcute domain name, huh? a reader/author networking listserv with over two hundred subscribers, and host a weekly chat with various author guests. You can learn all about the listserv (READ) and chats at my web site. Readersgoddesses one and allnamed READ. It stands for Readers Enjoy Authors' Daydreams. :) Why do I willinglynay, eagerly!spend so much time online? It's simple. Networking. And I don't mean with other writers, though that's a huge plus since many of us work in a vacuum. No, the very best thing about the Web is talking with readers. I get to hear what you're reading, what you like and don't like, what you want more or less of, what you bought, what titles you're looking for, and what you think of my latest release. Gulp!
