Rabindranath Tagore
Rabindranath Tagore is regarded as one of the greatest writers in modern Indian literature. Bengali poet, novelist and educator, he won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913. Tagore was awarded the knighthood in 1915, but he surrendered it in 1919 as a protest against the Massacre of Amritsar, where British troops killed some 400 Indian demonstrators protesting colonial laws. Tagore was born in Calcutta in a wealthy and prominent Brahman family. His father was Maharishi Debendranath Tagore, a religious reformer and scholar; his mother Sarada Devi, died when he was very. Tagore's grandfather had established a huge financial empire for himself, and financed public projects, such as Calcutta Medical College. The Tagores were pioneers of Bengal Renaissance and tried to combine traditional Indian culture with and Western ideas. The youngest child in the family, Tagore started to compose poems at the age of eight. He received his early education first from tutors and then at a variety of schools. Among them were Bengal Academy where he studied Bengali history and culture, and University College, London, where he studied law but left after a year without completing his studies.

About Myself "Eton of the East" My stay at Mayo was the best part of my student life. The routine was hectic yet refreshing. The motto of the school was 'Let there be light' and we tried hard to achieve 'education is the manifestation of perfection already in man'. Keeping in mind 'stop not till the goal is reached' I graduated from this high school in 1997 (10+2). After completing my schooling I came to Delhi at University of Delhi and joined the undergraduate program. My major was Geography and I completed undergraduation in July 2000.I have also completed a computing course and a website designing and management course of 6 months duration each from Indira Gandhi National Open University(IGNOU), New Delhi. IGNOU is a pioneer in distance education and its objective is to teach its students the art of learning on your own and getting the very best of it.Its education system is flexible and for that reason makes it one of the most reputed Universities of India in such a short span(Estd-1985). Regarding my interests, hobbies etc. it's tough time. I like SCUBA diving as well as trekking/hiking. Astonishingly two diametrically opposite things, at one point of time I like to explore the abyss sometimes I try to reach the azure skies over the mountains. I'm also fond of cross country . Anything related to adventure fascinates me. Traveling is always a great pleasure for me.

Biography
Rabindranath Tagore
Poet and writer India Born 7 May 1861
Died 7 Aug 1941
Tagore was the son of Maharishi Debendra Nath Tagore. The Tagores were a famous family of religious and social reformers, musicians and artists, and Rabindranath was brought up in a literary atmosphere. He was educated privately and at the age of 24 went to the country to take charge of his father's estates, where he wrote many of his works. In 1877 he paid a short visit to England. Tagore began writing Bengali lyrics at a very early age and in 1890 published his first volume of poetry, 'Manasi'. From 1891-95 he was the chief contributor to Sadhana, a prominent Bengali literary journal. To this period belongs his early group of dramas, 'Chitrangada', 'Sacrifice', 'King and Queen', and 'Malini', and two collections of lyrics, 'Chitra', which contains some of his finest work, and 'Sonar Tari'. His most celebrated collection of lyrics, 'Gitanjali', was published in 1909, and in the following year 'The King of the Dark Chamber', a profoundly moving drama.
In 1912 he again visited England, taking with him an English translation of 'Gitanjali'. Its greatness was at once recognized by WB Yeats and William Rothenstein and on its appearance in 1913 it received tremendous acclaim in Europe and America. Tagore received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913 and was knighted in 1915. He spent much of the latter half of his life in travel, and visited nearly every country in Europe and Asia, as well as the United States.

Rabindranath Tagore Rabindranath Tagore was born into a distinguished Bengali family in Calcutta, West Bengal on 1861. His father's name was the Maharishi Debendranath Tagore, a well known Hindu reformer and mystic and his mother was Shrimati Sharada Devi.
Tagore received his education at home.He was taught in Bengali, with English lessons in the afternoon. He read the Bengali poets since his early age and himself began writing poetry himself by the age of eight. Rabindranath Tagore did have a brief spell at St Xavier's Jesuit school, but found the conventional system of education uncongenial.
His father wanted him to become a barrister and he was sent to England for this reason.
In England, Tagore heard John Bright and W.E.Gladstone speak and was highly impressed and inspired by their "large-hearted, radical liberalism." In 1879, he enrolled at University College, at London, but was called back by his father to return to India in 1880.
By l883 he was married. Tagore's family chose his bride, an almost illiterate girl of ten named Bhabatarini (renamed Mrinalini), whom he married with little ceremony.
