DAVE WARNER Thanks a lot for taking the time to do this interview, Mr. Warner! This must be a very exciting time for you right now. CUT marks your first foray into screenwriting and is already looking like a big hit! Are you really psyched about its release? I’ve been writing screenplays for ten years now, and while a number have almost been up on screen and a number are close to getting up on screen, this is the only one to have yet made it - so yeah, I’m very psyched about it. Excellent. How long did it take you to write the screenplay to CUT? Was the plot hard to conceive, or did it just flow? I wrote the original draft in a couple of weeks. It was after SCREAM and I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER but before SCREAM 2. I had the idea of a bunch of film school students making a film that’s been long dormant because every time somebody goes to make it, they all die. I did the first couple of drafts and then others re-wrote it, changed and added things. There’s still things I miss from those early drafts but overall I’m just glad it’s out there. Bummer. I suppose its nice to have the film out there, but I think everybody knows the hardships of being edited to death. I also understand that CUT is pretty violent. Was there any reason for going back to the good old days of blood and guts, rather than keeping it a relatively bloodless slasher?

Minutes of Strong Angel 1/25/00 Telecon with Dr. Dave Warner
    Background
Representatives of CSOC’s Advanced Technology organization participated in a telecon with Dr. Dave Warner, MD, Medical Neuroscientist, Dir. Medical Intelligence, MindTel, davew@well.com www.pulsar.org during the afternoon of January 25, 2000. Dr. Warner is the technically cognizant representative customer for the proposed NASA provided SatCom for the Strong Angel exercise. We were directed to Dr. Warner through our Lockheed Martin Business Development contacts coordinating with representatives of the Ames Research Center (ARC). Dr. Warner works closely with East Carolina University (ECU) in global application of ECU’s Telemedicine research. Elements of this research are planned to be applied to the Strong Angel exercise and constitute the demand for the proposed SatCom link from the exercise to ECU. RIMPAC is a US Military exercise that occurs in the Pacific Theater every two years. This year the command infrastructure decided to expand the scope of the exercise to include the concept of a broadly based, multinational training exercise for a Bosnian type of relief effort. Lessons learned from the Bosnian and other similar involvement’s indicate that thousands of lives could potentially be saved if the application of a modern mobile communications infrastructure is employed in a more timely manner. The goal of ECU’s participation is to determine through experimentation, the real-world requirements for communications in a desolated environment with a large number of refugees requiring medical attention. Strong Angel is the first in a series of activities to explore this concept. The next event scheduled for the fall of 2000 is called Mercy Mission to America, which will be a Red Cross led activity with no Military SatCom.

    26. AN INTERVIEW WITH DAVE WARNER - Between The Lines
Within the small handful of people there's potentially a couple that could be theauthor of the narcotic and muscular crime novel 'Big Bad Blood', dave warner.
    http://www.thei.aust.com/isite/btl/btlindave.html
THE nouveau Mediterranean interior of The Deli Cafe on Melbourne's prestigious Toorak Road is filled with an odd bric-a-brac of lunch time customers; some hold mobile phones to their ears, faces masked in concentration, while others sip at glasses of wine, trying to keep cool. Within the small handful of people there's potentially a couple that could be the author of the narcotic and muscular crime novel 'Big Bad Blood', Dave Warner. ' What does a crime writer look like? Is it the kind of person who skulks around the corners of a room; a man shrouded from head to toe in black, nicotine stained fingers, baggy-eyed and carrying a few extra pounds or like James Ellroy in his earlier days; a collision of crumpled attire, sleaze and seediness?
When Dave Warner finally arrives, he shatters every illusion that the more romantically minded amongst us may have imagined; the skin is closer to olive than ghostly and translucent, the form leans toward the stocky side, his brown hair curls around the back of his shirt collar and the grin is warm with a Cheshire Cat edge. Strike One for the man described as "Australia's answer to James Ellroy", whose pen crawls through tawdry cesspits of sex, politics, money, death and bent cops, and who would clearly love to embody the kind of low life characters that swim through his fictional canvases.
He sits down, orders a coffee and breaks into a grin when he realises that illusions have been shattered: "Am I supposed to go out in a drunken haze and suffer for my art," he offers. "I know lots of people like that, y'know, who have writers block and suffer. I don't have any of that at all. I'm not even a nocturnal creature, in fact, I'm really boring. I sort of exist between the hours of 7am through to midnight. I swim every morning at Manly Pool, that's my one bit of exercise, and then I write for as much of the day as I can."

Proclaimed Australia's answer to James Ellroy, Dave Warner surfs through staccatos of words like a New Orleans bluesman exorcising his bourbon-ridden soul in his second novel Big Bad Blood . A playwright, musician and poet who has two films in development and whose first novel City Of Light was awarded the WA Premier's Fiction Award, 1996, Warner is a literary Scorsese hungering for blood and the scent of the chase. Never shying from graphic verve but instead inhaling, living and breathing every globule of thick, crimson residue.

    Co-Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks
Dave Warner enters his second season as the Co-Offensive Coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Houston Cougars. He came to Houston in 2001 from the University of Connecticut, where he spent the previous two years serving as the Offensive Coordinator as well as quarterbacks coach. Prior to joining the UConn coaching staff in January 1999, Warner was a member of Dana Dimel's staff at the University of Wyoming in 1998 as the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator. The Cowboys had the No. 3 passing attack in the Western Athletic Conference. Warner also also held coaching stints at Bucknell University (1997), the University of Kansas (1988-96), Kent State University (1984-87) and Syracuse University (1982-1983) in 17 years of college coaching. During his nine years as KU's quarterbacks coach, Warner tutored Jayhawk signal caller Chip Hilleary, who was only the second player in Big Eight Conference history to rush for more than 1,000 yards and pass for more than 4,000 yards. Hilleary also set school records for completion percentage (57.6%) and combined passing and rushing touchdowns (49). While at KU, Warner recruited Western Kansas and Houston areas, and was part of the coaching staff that led the Jayhawks to appearances in the 1992 and 1995 Aloha Bowls. Prior to joining the Kansas staff, Warner spent four years as an assistant coach at Kent State. He first tutored the running backs (1984-85) before coaching the quarterbacks from 1986-87.

    Dave Warner's Gallery
    Updated August 1999
    Empire State Outdoors #1
This 20-second animation was done for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (also known as ENCON ) as an intro for an environmental awareness and New York State tourism bureau promotional program that will begin airing regularly on regional news channels and PBS some time in 1999.
    Original Concept
I was contacted by an ENCON employee who was struggling to learn LightWave and complete this project for a fairly tight deadline. The challenge was to bring this printed image to life and after throwing around a few ideas, I decided that it was something I wanted to work on...even though it was essentially logo work, I saw an opportunity to do some fun things with the various elements. More importantly, it was for a good cause...and they had some money to spend. :-)
Original Concept Image provided by client
    Final Render
After a couple of weeks of working closely with ENCON, I had something that looked pretty decent as a still-frame and as an animation. I wanted to do a number of things differently, but it's exactly what the folks at ENCON wanted and, more importantly, they were really happy with the results. A lot of wild ideas started flying around as they saw what sort of things could be done with LightWave...there were a LOT of last minute changes in the animation and I had to eventually reel them in and get a final "sign off" on the finished work. They came up with a number of things that they want added as the show goes on, like birds flying into the trees, a fish jumping out of the water, and maybe even some seasonal changes tthroughout the year.

    XML-RPC in Python
by Dave Warner The Internet, with its simple protocol and ubiquity, has opened up huge opportunities for programs to communicate between computers, a task that always seemed complex and daunting in the past. Now there is a new dilemma. Which framework should you use for automating communication? The two most popular frameworks, Enterprise JavaBeans and Microsoft's COM, are highly expressive and robust, but also complex. They carry an enormous amount of processing overhead. Other requirements, such as cross-platform and cross-language capability, only add to the dilemma. The Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) has recently come to the forefront, promising to solve many of these problems. In active development, SOAP has several partial implementations available but is still a moving target. Some implementations cannot yet talk to each other.
So what's a developer to do?
