SENATOR JAMES W. WRIGHT James W. Wright, Republican, Conservative, Independent, is serving his fifth term in the New York State Senate, representing the state's 46th Senate District. The Senator was first elected in 1992, and has been reelected by large margins ever since. Senator Wright has dedicated his career to public service, having started out as a child protective services caseworker in Oswego County. The Senator quickly ascended through the ranks of county government, and in 1979 was appointed as the first County Administrator of Oswego County. He served in that capacity until 1987, when he was then appointed as the first County Administrator of Jefferson County. He was successful in implementing various safety, environmental, economic development and infrastructure projects in both counties, receiving several honors for his achievements on behalf of the counties. During his tenure in the Senate, Mr. Wright has developed a reputation as a legislator who fights for his constituents and makes a concerted effort to answer each request personally.

Another research area concerns the timing of magmatic and metamorphic events within a number of the metamorphic core complexes of the western U.S. This primarily geochronological and petrological research concerns the relation of ductile deformation at deep structural levels, as within the lower plates of the Snake Range, Ruby Mountains-East Humboldt Range, and Whipple Mountain complexes, to brittle supracrustal normal faulting. In essence we are attempting to resolve the nature and timing of the deep-seated processes, including the timing and petrology of magmatism, that drive or accompany supracrustal extension. The most recent additions to this line of research was an NSF funded project in the Kigluaik Mountains, Seward Penninsula Alaska in collaboration with Jeff Amato , and a current NSF funded project in the Chukotka Peninsula of Far East Arctic Russia.

Commentary Children Researcher List Register Report ... Home I (Marty Grant) am a 3rd Great Grandson of James S. Wright and Caroline Winfrey. Special thanks to my Grandmother Luella George Grant (deceased), my Great Grandmother Della Wright George (deceased), my Great Aunt Marynell George Lequire, Toni Davidson, Alton Wright and others for data shared on this family. James S. Wright was born 23 Nov 1813 in Surry Co, NC, presumably in the Mitchell's River area near the Wilkes County border. His birth date is listed on his tombstone. His entry on the 1860 census shows he was born in Surry Co, NC, and family tradition also says he came from there. I've never found any primary evidence that James was a child of Aaron Wright and Mary Murphy, but scads of circumstantial evidence strongly indicate it, and we have a strong family tradition that James' father was named Aaron. In the book Our Heritage by Margaret Walker Freel (1950's, I think), she included a short article on the Wright family of Cherokee Co, NC, written by (or told by) Mrs. Bruce King, in the opening paragraph (page 370) she stated this:

email: Dr. Jim Wright is an associate professor in veterinary public health in the Department of Pathobiology and has been at Auburn University since 1985. He received a BS in biology from University of Georgia in 1974. After graduating from Georgia , Dr. Wright was in private veterinary practice in Virginia for two years. He then entered graduate school at the University of Missouri in Columbia where he received an MS and PhD in microbiology. His thesis and dissertation work involved studies of the epidemiology of Aujeszky's disease (pseudorabies) in swine. This work provided the basis for the federal pseudorabies control program which now exists. Dr. Wright joined the Department of Parasitology, Microbiology, and Public Health at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater where he taught veterinary public health and conducted vaccine trials for human rabies pre-exposure prophylaxis.
    Research Interests
My research interests involve both vector-borne diseases and the zoonoses including the epidemiology of Lyme disease and bluetongue and pre-harvest food safety. Dogs in households in which human cases of Lyme disease had occurred have been monitored for up to 18 months with no evidence of seroconversion. Studies also have been conducted on the transmission of bluetongue virus among both cattle and deer. A model for seroconversion has been developed using weather variables and it appears that daily hours of wet vegetation is the most important variable. Studies have been conducted on a recent outbreak of epizootic hemorrhagic disease is a captive herd of deer. Presently studies are being conducted on the shedding of

    September 27, 1998
I have been reading the poetry of James Wright this week. Partly to deflect my attention from the public spectacle we've all been dragged through, partly because Wright despised the self-righteousness and prurience in American public life. He wrote of Eisenhower's visit to Franco in 1959: The American hero must triumph over
The forces of darkness. He wrote of his countryman Warren Harding:
He died in public. He claimed the secret right
To be ashamed. Wright, who died in 1980, grew up in Martin's Ferry, Ohio, in the middle of the Depression. He knew what hard times were in a factory town in
America in those years when his father worked for Hazel-Atlas Glass and
his friends' fathers worked for Wheeling Steel and their sons lurked
aimlessly on Saturday nights along the banks and among the sinkholes of
    language of the place.

Add to a Notebook James Wright James Arlington Wright was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio, on December 13, 1927. His father worked for fifty years at a glass factory, and his mother left school at fourteen to work in a laundry; neither attended school beyond the eighth grade. While in high school in 1943 Wright suffered a nervous breakdown and missed a year of school. When he graduated in 1946, a year late, he joined the army and was stationed in Japan during the American occupation. He then attended Kenyon College on the G.I. Bill, and studied under John Crowe Ransom . He graduated cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa in 1952, then married another Martins Ferry native, Liberty Kardules. The two traveled to Austria, where, on a Fulbright Fellowship, Wright studied the works of Theodor Storm and Georg Trakl at the University of Vienna. He returned to the U.S. and earned master's and doctoral degrees at the University of Washington, studying with Theodore Roethke and Stanley Kunitz . He went on to teach at The University of Minnesota, Macalester College, and New York City's Hunter College.

Roethke Memorial Poetry Readings James Wright Interviews (1972)
When James Wright came to give the 1972 Roethke Memorial Poetry Reading, he had just been awarded the Pulitzer Prize for poetry for his Collected Poems (1971), and interviews with Wright appeared in both the Seattle Times and the University of Washington Daily.
From the Seattle Times , May 25, 1972: Pulitzer Prize poet in Seattle
by Julie Emery Dr. James Wright, America's newest Pulitzer Prize winner for poetry, is in Seattle with kind words for the nation's young people. Wright said the young are writing "a great deal of poetry and have a special gift." "This doesn't happen in every generation," said the University of Washington alumnus. "They're creating their own music." The formal British influence in poetry is being shaken off, Wright said a movement that began with him and a group of his friends in about 1960. This has been interpreted by some as a more relaxed tone in verse. Wright said this generation of youth has "something to deal with" (social problems) that is much more difficult to cope with than that which he faced in early years. The result is some "extraordinarily beautiful" poetry, he said. "Young people are charting their own course, and they deserve it," he remarked. "We've laid too much on them." The viistor won the Pulitzer for his 1971 work
