Re: Wu style history

There is an interesting article in the Autumn 2002 issue of the Qi Journal about the martial abilities of Wu Kung-yi and his oldest son, Wu Ta-kuei (who also slightly modified the training in his own turn, with his father's approval). The most telling bit in it was where Ch'en K'e-fu, the Tibetan White Crane stylist that Kung-yi had the challenge match with in January 1954, talks about how surprised he was that Kung-yi gave him so many bruises. Then he complimented Kung-yi's manners, saying that they eventually became friends. That kind of ability to end things well is all too rare these days.
Cheers!

August 2000. Quote of the month: "Hug Grendel! Hug Grendel! Hug Grendel!" Greetings and welcome to the August page. This month we had a repeat visit from some mongorian travelers one of which was a specter, but we'll get to that in a second. They came back to Evermoore in order to reset the seal which has kept an evil god trapped for the last thousand years. Well, the god wasn't always bad. Let me give you a quick run down of the whole story:
Ages ago there was a good mongorian god named Tai-Sho Wang. Over the period of his existence, he slowly became corrupt and evil. Eventually he became known as Gui-Mo Wong The Demon Magic King. Gui-Mo Wong brought much pain and suffering among the mongorian people until a mighty hero decided to take a stand against the evil god. In stepped a general named Tsao-Tsao. Tsao-Tsao fought the minions of the evil god and found a way to trap him within the earth. The only catch was that the seal on the prison needed to be reset every thousand years. In order to fulfill his quest, Tsao-Tsao needed to find a way to live that thousand years to make sure that the prison was kept shut. And, (of course) the only way for a mortal to live forever is to die. Being reborn as Wu-Sih Shogun, a warrior specter, Tsao-Tsao vowed to protect the seal for eternity.
So, on Saturday night the town went out in full force to stop the evil minions of Gui-Mo Wong who were trying to prevent the resealing ritual. With all their mighty heroes, magical spells, and sharpened weapons the town was ... completely annihilated. I mean they were spanked, toasted, and left out to dry. Over half of them were turned into zombies! They didn't even get a chance to *start* the resealing ritual, much less finish the thing! So, now Evermoore has a giant evil mongorian god running around. There goes the neighborhood. Oh well, at least everyone had fun. Take care, and be sure to tune into the next exciting episode of Mystic Realms!

Chinese Medicine: The Most Significant Substances and Their Indications
by John Amaro, DC, FIACA, Dipl. Ac. With the incredible popularity of Chinese herbs and traditional Chinese medicine formulae over the last few years in North America, Australia and Europe, it behooves practitioners to become familiar, or at least aware, of the individual herbs and substances which comprise the majority of formulas, along with their indications. Ninety-nine percent of all contemporary practitioners will undoubtedly opt to use in their practice ancient formulae which have been tableted and created for today's practitioner instead of spending thousands of hours learning how to formulate these ancient remedies themselves. In our busy practices and lives, we cannot expect to practice the same way it was done during the Ming dynasty and before. Utilizing Chinese herbology today has never been easier. Even with this in mind, knowledge of each individual substance, along with the English translation and indications, could prove to be a very valuable reference tool. The following list should be saved for future reference. Notice the list is in alphabetical order by Chinese name, followed by the English common name and indications. Should the need for a specific formula arise in which you are stymied not knowing where to look, fax the details to me at 602-488-5008; we will do the best we can to advise you and assist you in locating a patent formula or to create one specifically for your needs.

I would also like to thank Professor Ken'ichi Takashima for sending me important material from Japan. ) To understand how the examination system worked in the T'ang see Denis Twitchett, The birth of the Chinese meritocracy: bureaucrats and examinations in Tang China , a lecture delivered to the China Society in London on December 17, 1974 and printed by Bendles (Torquay) Ltd. ) Book-length studies of the Chinese aristocracy in early imperial history already exist, such as David Johnson's The medieval Chinese oligarchy , New York, 1977 and Patricia Ebrey's excellent study, The aristocratic families of early China: A case study of the Po-ling Tsui family , Cambridge University Press, 1978. However, most available studies center on the northern aristocracy in T'ang China. There have not been very many studies of individual southern aristocratic families either in Chinese or in Japanese, not to mention in English. As far as I know, Mao Han-kuang seems to be the main scholar publishing studies on individual southern aristocratic families. October 999, Age of Order
As written by Nikoli, Town Scribe Greetings good friends and fellow travelers of the trails. Once again your intrepid Gypsy Scribe is here to keep all of you completely informed as to events taking place in our fair town of Evermoore. Sadly these are dark days in the realm my good Tradesmen. As a strange Ranger I met once said to me, ``Evil waits around every corner, be sure you don't step in any.'' Last time our fair town was in meeting we found ourselves the hosts to an interesting cultural exchange. As many of our town's citizens bore witness to, our town was greeted with an influx of Mongorian travelers, who had come to enact and ancient ceremony honoring their dead ancestors. They called it the O-Bon festival . However so much more was to be revealed than just a few prayers and meditations. Now good friends, for the sake of your continued well being and piece of mind I have talked long and had with many citizens and have pieced together the series of events that led up to our last epic conflict. It seems that many years ago during the Age of Life (known as the `` Age of Heroes '' to our Mongorian friends) and like many of the realms isolated cultures the Mongorians in their harsh land created their own deity to suit their way of life, much as the Pythians and the Asgarns had done.

    Lesbian Poetry
Much of the lesbian poetry I put on my page uses references to Greek and Roman gods. Zeus (the Romans called him Jupiter) is the god of the skies and king of the gods. Aphrodite (Venus) is the Greek goddess of love and beauty. Apollo is the god of the sun and music [his twin sister is Artemis (Diana), who is my favorite goddess]. Hermes (Mercury) is the messenger god. Helen of Troy was the daughter of Zeus and Leda. She was considered the most beautiful woman, even more beautiful than Aphrodite, which really pissed Aphrodite off. Clytie was totally in love with Apollo and was later turned into a flower, the heliotrope. Charon is the boatman who took the dead across the River Styx. The Pleides were the seven daughters of Atlas who were pursued by Orion and turned into a constellation. Eros (Cupid) is the god of love and the son of the beautiful Aphrodite. Click on the poet below to read a little about her and some of her poetry.
