William Butler Yeats
Dort eine kleine Hütte bauen, aus Lehm und Geflecht gemacht;
Von den Schleiern des Morgens zu dem Ort, an dem die Grille singt;
Höre ich das Wasser des Sees leise ans Ufer schlagen;
The Lake Isle of Innisfree

Glossary entry for
Yeats, William Butler
William Butler Yeats (June 13, 1865 - January 28, 1939) celebrated Irish poet and nationalist, was born in Dublin, and educated in London and Dublin. While studying at the School of Art in Dublin he developed an interest in mystic religion and the supernatural. He helped to found the Irish Literary Society, and with the help of Lady Gregory and others, co-founded the Irish Literary Theatre (later the Irish National Theatre Society) in 1899. His wife's interest in automatic writing exercised a profound effect on his life and work. Yeats received the 1923 Nobel Prize in literature (see http://nobelprizes.com/ One of Yeats' longer works was entitled "A Vision" (with a Van reference in "Rave On"), which has been called "a completely obscure work about which there is hardly any literary criticism because as with Finnegans Wake, it is barely written in English" Van previously recorded a song called "Crazy Jane on God" (based on the Yeats poem of the same name) for the A Sense of Wonder album, but the Yeats estate wouldn't allow the song to be included (only classic settings of Yeats poems were allowed at the time). "Crazy Jane On God" was replaced on that album by "If You Only Knew", however it went out on the test/promo albums (vinyl), so there are copies around.

http://www.nobel.se/literature/laureates/1923/yeats-bio.html
William Butler Yeats (1865-1939) was born in Dublin. His father was a lawyer and a well-known portrait painter. Yeats was educated in London and in Dublin, but he spent his summers in the west of Ireland in the family's summer house at Connaught. The young Yeats was very much part of the in London; at the same time he was active in societies that attempted an Irish literary revival. His first volume of verse appeared in 1887, but in his earlier period his dramatic production outweighed his poetry both in bulk and in import. Together with Lady Gregory he founded the Irish Theatre, which was to become the Abbey Theatre, and served as its chief playwright until the movement was joined by John Synge. His plays usually treat Irish legends; they also reflect his fascination with mysticism and spiritualism. William Butler Yeats is unique in his multi-form position. He is on the one hand a poet, dramatist, essayist, and novelist. He is a mystic, prophet, romantic lover, senator, Nobel prize winner, and theorist on the other hand. As he once remarked, he is "a lonely crowd." From the contemporary theoretical perspective, he is the theoretical explorer of the poetics of "open form" more than anything else. The purpose of this Yeats International Cyberspace is through the cyberlinks of "trace" to illustrate how William Butler Yeats was, has been, is, and will be the poet of multi-form, of open form, of projective form, in short, of cyberspace.

Yeats received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1923. Between the Celtic visions of THE WANDERINGS OF OISIN (1889) and the intellectual, often obscure poetry of the 1930s, Yeats produced a tremendous amount of works. In his early career Yeats studied William Blake 's poems, Emanuel Swedenborg 's writings and other visionaries. Later he expressed his disillusionment with the reality of his native country. Central theme in Yeats's poems is Ireland, its bitter history, folklore, and contemporary public life. Once out of nature I shall never take
    My bodily form from any natural thing,
    But such a form as Grecian goldsmith make
    Of hammered gold and gold enamelling
    To keep a drowsy emperor awake;
    Or set upon a golden bough to sing
    To lords and ladies of Byzantium
    Of what is past, or passing, or to come.

    William Butler Yeats, c. The Granger Collection, New York City [Audio] (b. June 13, 1865, Sandymount, Dublin, Ire.d. Jan. 28, 1939, Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France), Irish poet, dramatist, and prose writer, one of the greatest English-language poets of the 20th century. He received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1923. In 1867, when Yeats was only two, his family moved to London, but he spent much of his boyhood and school holidays in Sligo with his grandparents. This countryits scenery, folklore, and supernatural legendwould colour Yeats's work and form the setting of many of his poems. In 1880 his family moved back to Dublin, where he attended the high school. In 1883 he attended the Metropolitan School of Art in Dublin, where the most important part of his education was in meeting other poets and artists. Meanwhile, Yeats was beginning to write: his first publication, two brief lyrics, appeared in the Dublin University Review in 1885. When the family moved back to London in 1887, Yeats took up the life of a professional writer. He joined the Theosophical Society, whose mysticism appealed to him because it was a form of imaginative life far removed from the workaday world. The age of science was repellent to Yeats; he was a visionary, and he insisted upon surrounding himself with poetic images. He began a study of the prophetic books of William Blake, and this enterprise brought him into contact with other visionary traditions, such as the Platonic, the Neoplatonic, the Swedenborgian, and the alchemical.

    spoken of under the name of parangi. The name framboesia was first given to the disease by Sauvages in 1759 from the likeness of the typical excrescences to a raspberry. For many years yaws was thought to be peculiar to the African negro, either in his home (both west and east coasts) or in the West Indies and Brazil. But a disease the same in every respect has long been known in the East Indies (first mentioned by Bontius early in the 17th century), affecting the Malays rather than the negroes, its chief seats being Amboyna, Ternate, Timor, Celebes, Java and Sumatra. It has been identified by Dc Rochas and other observers in New Caledonia and Fiji. (2) that when the Spirochaeta perlenuis is removed by filtration the material becomes inert; (3) that the injection of blood from the general circulation of a yaws patient gave positive results in monkeys; (4) by means of the Bordet-Gengou reaction it is possible to detect specific yaws anti-bodies and antigen. The prophylaxis consists in the segregation of the patients suffering from the disease, the antiseptic dressing of the eruption, the application of a covering to protect it from flies, and the thorough cleansing and disinfection. of infected houses and clothing, even the demolition of houses in endemic centres, and finally the compulsory notification. of cases of yaws to the local sanitary authority.
