Multiple Intelligences"
"How would the proverbial Martian landing on Earth view the intelligence of the human species?" That's the provocative question asked by Harvard professor of education, Howard Gardner. Gardener developed the "Theory of Multiple Intelligences" which says, in effect, that IQ should not be measured as an absolute figure in the way that height, weight or blood pressure are. It's a crucial blunder, he maintains, to assume that IQ is a single fixed entity which can be measured by a pencil and paper test. It's now how smart you are but how you are smart, says Gardner. As human beings, we all have a repertoire of skills, he says, for solving different kinds of problems. And he defines intelligence this way: "An intelligence is an ability to solve a problem or fashion a product which is valued in one or more cultural settings." Gardner revealed his theory in his ground-breaking book "Frames of Mind" in which he outlined seven distinct intelligences. He subsequently added an eighth.

Is Chinese really that difficult to learn?
Chinese is often perceived as a 'difficult' language to learn. This is probably due to the tonal nature of spoken Chinese and that the Chinese written script is based on pictographs or characters. However, learning Chinese is actually easier in some respects than learning English - with Chinese, there are no conjugations, no declensions, no different suffixes or prefixes according to singular or plural numbers, gender, tenses as in past, present or future etc. Therefore, grammar is a lot easier with Chinese.

Chinese using Accelerated Learning A 10-week course of 2 hours each week full of fun and rapid learning. What Students will Learn In this course participants will be taught how to write the commonly used Chinese radicals which still form the basis of modern Chinese writing. By mastering these radicals students will learn other ideographs more easily and how to use a Chinese/English dictionary more quickly. Students will also learn to converse in everyday situations. The approach used to teach writing reading and conversing is based wholly on accelerated learning principles. Chinese Writing Chinese writing has no alphabetical order therefore it is difficult to remember the ideographs through memorisation, since there are no sequential links connecting them. There are 214 elementary pictographs that form the basis of Chinese writing. These pictographs originated literally from pictures drawn of objects, animals, phenomena of nature etc. These pictures have changed over the years but many can be identified from their original representations eg. The word for "human being" is:
These pictographs evolved over the centuries of Chinese civilisation into symbols that stand for abstract ideas. Thus simple pictographs evolved further into ideographs. Gradually ideographs were combined with a kind of phonetic script to make new words. The Chinese language is constantly evolving and there is an infinite number of words that can emerge through the combinations of the 214 elementary pictographs called 'Chinese radicals'. Alternatively a new word can be formed by combining two or more radicals. And this is only the beginning. Such is the genius of Chinese writing.

Examples of Current Action Research in Accelerated Learning. Article ID:090202 a review by:
Lorna Minewiser, L.P.C. In 2000 the Waterloo Region District School board compiled an overview of 36 action research projects conducted by teachers in that district. Action research is a systematic, critical, and creative inquiry into the goals, processes, and contexts of any professional practice by the practitioners. In this case the action research was conducted by teachers trained in Quantum Teaching , and who focused on questions regarding the implementation of these strategies in their classrooms.  The self-assessment data they collected demonstrated several important patterns, one of which was the increased amount of time spent in reflection.  Teachers reflected on whether their teaching was as good as it could be and whether they could improve it. Action research forces the researcher to look at what happens in his or her classroom.  The participants commented that both the data collection process and the process of writing up the reports increased the time they spent in reflection.  The Waterloo School Board affirmed that action research “is one means of facilitating a professional learning community and organizational learning.”
